Next Gen Disney Tech On the Way

Ed Catmull announced at SIGGRAPH today that Disney is investing in research initiatives at Carnegie-Mellon and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich to research and develop the next generation of Disney technology for use in film, tv, internet and theme parks.

An interesting quote from the Variety article:

"Among the projects highlighted in Disney's announcement is finding new ways for people to interact with robotic or virtual characters -- research that would have applications in Disney theme parks. "

These universities were good choices for Disney to partner with. It will be interesting to see exactly what comes out of this.
