News & Rumors??

Yeah, whatever...News & Rumors...Wishes & Whines...Pixie Dust and Snowglobes (love that, YoHo!) welcome to the Boards anyways; here's to debate, cynicism, and ignorance! Good thing we all love DISNEY so much!!

Perhaps there isn't much news or rumour lately. I check this forum out every other day in the hope of some new and exciting rumour. It has been very quiet lately. However I am extremely pleased to hear that there will be a sit down restaurant at SSR. So I am happy, not sure about everyone else though!!!

lumpalumpa.....just curious as to how long you've been lurking, not that it matters. This board has quite a bit of history and I'm just curoious as to how much you've experienced.

I do agree with you that lately there has been little interesting news and a dearth of bona fide rumors, hence I haven't been around much, but beyond that you'll just have to accept that this board is very much about people who love Disney discussing various items (not always of news or rumor origin) in the context of Disney's history, what Disney was, is, and might become, what made or makes Disney "Disney", and most importantly if this.........
I just returned from our Disney vacation where my 2 children got to see it for the first time. And I'm sure that by watching my children run up and hug Mickey and all the other characters and be in complete awe and amazment of such a wonderous place that this is what Walt wanted.
.........will be there for your children's children to experience in the same way in the decades to come. Most certainly, many of the people here love Disney a lot more than you think they do. Of course I'm not so much in touch with the full cast of current characters on this board as many of the old regulars, who I'm sure you'd have viewed as the most cynical of the cynical (but they had great points that made for great discussion), have moved on to other more private pastures that are truely less tolerant of dissenting opinion.

Yes, sometimes the criticism can be seen as negativity, but anything good should welcome a spirited critical challenge. In fact, if one doesn't vigorously challenge the things they love when they fall short or move in the wrong direction we only have ourselves to blame when that which we once loved is no longer there. Think in those terms, think about that wonderful trip you had and whether the things the company is doing will continue to provide or improve upon such experiences, and you might come to view this board differently and actually appreciate it.

I did all that, and you know what......I'm better for it. But I'm still not a passenger in the third vehicle.

PS.....Matt, Yoho.......how's it hanging "over there" ;). See ya around. Oh, and Matt, you are soon to be 4-2.

That's exactly my point. People come here based upon the title of the board "News and Rumors" and find debate and cynacism.

Debate and cynicism have their place. Why not here?

I am perfectly well aware of what News and Rumors are and I find no where in the definition where it includes debate or intolerance.

Well, broadcast "news" is full of debate and intolerance.

A dictionary definition of "rumors" wouldn't include your idea that "It should be able to allow visitors to take a grain of truth and let their imagination grow with it."

So, why is your idea of going beyond the strict title of "News and Rumors" more valid than others?

As I said above, I agree we could be a bit more welcoming to new posters. But new posters shouldn't expect to just sweep in here and change the long history of vigorous debate (and they certainly shouldn't challenge whether the posters here are true fans of "Disney").

I have been a reader of this board for a very long time and it seems that based upon the overall content over the last few months it should be renamed to.... Whining & Bashing.

I find it very difficult to believe that the majority of the people that post on here are actually fans of Disney. From what has been posted I would have to assume just the opposite....Let's bash animation medium...let's see whose death is to be blamed for the "demise" of Disney, let's all clap and cheer the exiting of Eisner and the list goes on and on and on.

I've just noticed an oddity. Lumpalump's first post on the DIS was complaining about the Muppets' Wizard of Oz:

This movie might show a new trend for Disney movies..a trend towards losing the objective taht they are making family movies. I bought this movie for my 2yr DD and it saddened me to hear references made to sex video "Girls Gone Wild", Downloading things from Napster and Gonzo having nipples. Are any of these things that we need to expose our children to?

I sent an email to Disney to express my concern and received a reply stating that I should have expected this since it was a PG rated movie. But that's exactly my point..IT'S PG!!!!! Why should a Disney Muppet movie ever have to be rated PG and even if it is and PG is for 12 and under...does Disney feel that this is the target market that watch "Girls Gone Wild" of need to know that Gonzo has nipples?

I don't think so..I just don't think so.

Does this not qualify as "Whining and Bashing"?

This is a discussion board on the topic of Disney news and Disney rumors. ERGO, we must Discuss News and Rumors. discussion includes debates. So, in fact, debate is exactly a part of what we do here. And, logically, in a discussion about news and rumors, there is a certain intolerance for those ignorant of the facts at hand. That is not intolerance of a person or opinion, it's intolerance of ignorance. Very very different.

If you just want to read the news, then might I suggest CNN and the like.

I think what he is looking for is the following:

"OK, here you go, rumors that have a chance of coming true.

1) Expedition Everest will have soft openings over Christmas.
2) The sea cabs are coming back.
3) DVC will expand at the Contemporary
4) An additional ride will be built in the World at Epcot
5) COP will stay, it will go, it will stay........
6) Tarzan Rocks is closing, the theater will then be enclosed for a new show.

So do you guys think these will happen? Is it positive or negative? "

The debate than begins on those rumors. While this occasionally happens, it is still a rare occurance in these boards.

I think part of the reason it rarely happens here, is because we're generally fairly savvy about how Disney works for better and for worse.

Quite frankly, soft opening rumors are boring, so that's why those threads die.

Threads about rides coming back or new rides being built. We had some a month or 2 ago, because October is the beginning of the new fiscal year, so A lot of ideas get pitched to solidify and justify jobs. Stuff is floated out there. The sad truth is so little of it gets through.

Gonzo has nipples???!!!??? Now that's the kinda inside scoop I'm REALLY looking for!
Pixie Dust and Group Hugs to all. :wizard: :grouphug:

Newspapers contain news, rumors, and opinions about those news and rumors do they not? Same with TV news shows and channels.

A Disney news and rumors board implies nothing different, only that the topics will relate to Disney.

Of course its up to every site/program to define the scope of their discussions, and this board has done that.

Does this not qualify as "Whining and Bashing"?
Not in my book, but it certainly does muddy the waters on exactly what Lumpalump is "looking" for.

PS I find it almost humorous how many people have responded to this original posting with such ferver. Almost as though I was personally attacking the credibilty of any one person. My thoughts were a reflection of reading hundreds of posting of the last few years.

It's kinda interesting....

Yes, it is interesting how you came to that conclusion.

I am perfectly well aware of what News and Rumors are and I find no where in the definition where it includes debate or intolerance.
How ironic that you pointed that out.

You posted an obvious topic for debate regarding your intolerance for the opinions of others, then point out that debates and intolerance are not in the board's definition.
