News Round Up 2020

Yeah and Tokyo likes their exclusivity. You don't often see a ride that Tokyo has come elsewhere.

Tokyo spends a lot of money on their rides. That's why they are the greatest Disney Parks - they don't have the "do it as cheap as possible" attitude that Disney often falls to. (Though not always because I think it's hard to argue that they did Galaxy's Edge "cheap". )

Oh I could argue they did Galaxy's Edge cheap. Ever hear the rumors about the people move type Bantha ride that was supposed to go around the edge of the land?

As cool as that would've been it would've been a capacity nightmare. Disney did not go cheap on the land in terms of cost. They do need to learn how to use that budget better though. That overall is an issue WDI has struggled with for years. Guardians for example at Epcot is costing them $450 million for one indoor coaster.

I think there is a difference between have scale cut back and "doign it on the cheap" ... I think what was done was not done on the cheap at all - but cutting things, for sure is an issue in the Disney Corp owned parks

That seems like a lot for an indoor coaster as cool as it may be.

Any idea the cost on Hagrids? I finally got to ride that over the weekend and it was incredible.

Hagrids was much less. I want to say 200? I believe all of Diagon Alley was done for $200-300 million. WDI/Disney have always had cost control problems.

well, they did turn an entire pavilion that housed a 45 min long attraction into just the pre-show and then built a new building for actual ride that is 4 times the volume of Spaceship Earth, so not surprised it costs a pretty penny

I'm sorry - but while you could argue they cut things from Galaxy's Edge - I would argue justly that they did not do Galaxy's edge on the cheap. Toy Story Land sure, but not Galaxy's Edge. Yes they cut stuff, but that is different from doing it cheap.

Yeah I think I understand, we were probably talking about two different concepts.

I was thinking 'on the cheap' meant cutting attractions/restaurants, but the rest of you mean by 'on the cheap' as in putting in off the shelf ride elements or not doing extensive rock work or just having things look generally cheap. I get it.

And now that I'm down a rabbit-hole of ride videos...Tron looks awesome but man I'd hate to get stuck on that ride in that position! 😂

I dont love Shanghai's version of Pirates.

If you have motion sickness issues Ratatouille may not be so fun. My dad and sister won't do it again.
