Not sure what you mean by this. Disney has the NBA Experience, tons of NBA branded merchandise and of course a long standing relationship/TV deal with the NBA.

Yes. Disney got the good PR bump with the timing of the announcement. It was good. Whether they follow through with the announcement may not matter after a few years. Our culture has a very short attention span and memory.

Really just depends on if leadership prioritizes the dollars/cents of the project or the PR of the project. And this year (and next) for the park probably means a LOT of good and/or needed projects will never see the light of day.

Right .. Disney has a relationship with the NBA because Disney owns ABC/ESPN. So obviously they are going to cross-promote, that's smart business.

I am just saying that most Disney park fans are probably not HUGE NBA fans .. that's all. So, this set has a very limited audience of who would buy this product compared to say releasing, say, a Mickey Mouse set. If Disney is willing to produce a Magic Band set for a limited audience, I could easily see them making more magic band sets in the future with broader appeal to the typical Disney parks fan! ... A MK 50th anniversary set .. an "Epcot Forever" set (with bands with the art from the old attractions), etc.

One can only get away with saying the dog ate the homework so many times. Sure people might forget in 18 months, but then the very next time America is forced to take a hard look at its race legacy, people are going to remember that Disney made promises it didn't keep. Once the promise has been made, they're going to need to be seen to moving forwards.

You're talking about cold hard dollars, but you can rest assured, people inside Disney have a very good idea of how expensive bad press can be. This *is* being doing because of the numbers.

Why would you say that? I'm of the opinion that people that visit WDW are actually a large cross section of of the population as a whole. So I'd expect that there would be a similar percentage of Disney fans who are also NBA fans.

Exactly. To say that Disney fans aren‘t NBA fans is not a great look and comes across quite wrong, especially right now.

Plus the fact that sports memorabilia is an extremely lucrative business. Disney was so smart to put this together, and I doubt they would do it for any other type of magicband set, because people will buy this set just to display (or resell down the road) and never use or link them to their MDE. It’ll sit in people’s display cases, like signed memorabilia. Whereas a Mickey or Princess themed set, would most likely include too many magicbands for an average family and people would more than likely want to utilize them, so the cost would be prohibitive.

I think Josh was just talking about the technology in general, such as mobile order, not the park reservation system specifically. I wouldn't think that is a certainty at all.
As was already pointed out, they already had that with Fastpass + though no guarantee that will stick around either.

I wonder if this gives them the opportunity to get rid of Fastpass+ and replace it with Maxpass. Admittedly DLR still has Fastpass, but you could eliminate free Fastpass and have Maxpass only - greatly reducing the number of Fastpass users and in doing so reduce standby lines.

IDK - even as I type it its not a great theory. FP+ doesn't work quite as well as they would probably like - mostly because it still leaves a lot of people waiting in massive lines. But it DOES give a lot of people the ability to wait in very short lines, which is good for Disney. The big problem Disney has is that in 3 of 4 parks there are not enough rides for the system to really work very well, but they can't have it in one park and not the other 3.

One thing is certain, they will use this opportunity to change things up in SOME way.

New Mutants reviews are.... not good? Atrocious? Appalling? All of the above? I expected them to be bad. I expect the movie to be bad, but well... I guess it was a good movie to burn on theaters right now. For a taste of the joy being heaped on this probable turd, here you go:

How about if they just limit the number of fastpasses you receive for free to your original three? If you want more than three, you pay extra for the privilege of making fourth and subsequent fastpasses on the day of your visit.. Getting first crack at your original three provides an incentive to stay at a Disney resort. And if the "extra" cost is high enough, the number of total fastpasses issued daily should decline, easing wait times on standby lines.

Another alternative would be to allow only Disney Resort guests to make three free fastpasses, with everyone else paying for the privileges. (Change that to an unlimited number and we're talking about how Universal treats its Premier hotels.)

My comment wasn't a race thing. I was just saying that I think the audience of a "Disney/NBA" crossover product is probably not that large percentage of Disney parks fans. That's why I said "huge" fans. Just an anecdotal speculation: I see the typical Disney fan as a family .. with kids. Parents typically don't have time to be an "uber fan" of professional sports (like they used to when they didn't have kids). I know I don't. That's all. Uber fans are the ones buying sports memorabilia, not casual fans. But hey, I could be wrong.

So, yes, Disney was smart to offer a set to commemorate the special NBA bubble. I see it as a good test to them opening the door to more Disney-related limited edition sets that would probably be way more popular for the average Disney guest/fan. There are plenty of Disney fans that buy "collectibles" that live on shelves as well. This could be the next phase of that.

It's not at all the same but I'm reminded of the Riviera moderate vs regular DVC debate on here. I was thinking no way they could have a regular DVC there without transportation or amenities to back it up. Was thinking digging a moat is impossible and buses wouldn't cut it. Then voila gondolas were dropped on us out of no where.

So who knows really what they would role out. I'm very curious to find out but it could be something that no one could predict.
