I know everyone always wants to super serious reasons for everything ... but it might simply be this has been the plan for a while and perhaps they were worried about it leaking out so they got ahead of it or another firm was courting Chapek so they went ahead with it now.

A huge chunk of their profit is Parks, Experience, and whatever the other part of that portfolio is. Can't see them spinning that off even if that division will take a hit this year due to Coronavirus. Of course since most companies seem to be concerned only with the short-term I suppose anything is possible.

And that water level isn't too deep. Sort of a strange story

The fact that the ride opened up again only like an hour and a half later too makes it feel like this is one of those stories that ends up being exaggerated because the only info is from guests on social media. Maybe somehow the boat came off the track, some water splashed in and now we have a "jungle cruise boat sinks and water comes into boat" story.
