News Round Up 2020

I don't know. I think Disney parks are really built on nostalgia. So many people bring their kids to Disney because they went to Disney or they grew up with Disney films and TV. Obviously the product itself changes over time and they can innovate but the stories are what's nostalgic. Also its often said Disney is reluctant to make big changes or remove something like Autopia/Speedway because so many kids experience that as a right of passage sort of thing and then those kids bring their kids when they become parents. I know for myself I loved Speedway as a kid and I certainly would want to experience that with my kids whenever I become a parent.

I’ve been thinking about this more. It’s the nostalgia that brings you back sometimes, and gets you on some rides over and over. But, it isn’t necessarily as important to the people you bring.

On the podcast, there was a question of what ride you’d bring a new Disney guest on first, and some of the choices I really disagreed with, like Dumbo, because of nostalgia. They never wanted Disney to be a museum. But, I wish EPCOT was more of one, and I still don’t like Jack Sparrow in Pirates! Innovation and creativity don’t always strike gold, but we gotta let go, and let them do more new stuff.

‘Sunday morning coffee deep thought.

And see I would agree with Dumbo. While not flashy and innovative its classic and something recognizable. I would imagine the majority of people that have never been to Disney have heard of or know about Dumbo.

I’m going with first timers next month and they’re most excited about Dumbo and tea cups. They have no idea what’s about to hit them with stuff like FOP and ROTR.

They were all wrong, Peter Pan's Flight should've been the right answer. Original, nostalgic, and uniquely Disney.
I like this, but you are wrong as well! The answer is Haunted Mansion. No ride tells a better story from queue, through waiting room, through ride. It's not based on an IP that Disney got from somewhere else, and, unlike Pirates, it is true to the original story line, and the special effects are still very cool. Peter Pan is close, but the story is not Disney's and the effects just aren't the same.

Soon someone is going to say Small World. But Small World but who wants to start their vacation off by making everyone suffer through that endless song? And the queue is not up to PP or HM at all.

I don’t think there is a right or wrong to this question. Some could say HM, Pirates, Splash, etc. Disney has so many options that tell stories well with or without IP.

Of course there is no right or wrong. That's what makes it funny. For me, Teacups and Dumbo and Raceway... bleh. But HM, Peter Pan, Splash, Pirates, Space, Jungle Cruise (why hasn't that come up yet?) even the darn People Mover. They just scream Disney. As does the Swiss Tree House and Country Bears and Tiki Room, though I wouldn't start with those...

I had thought about Jungle Cruise, but thought it might come off cheesy as someone's first ever Disney ride.

The Peoplemover is simultaneously one of my favorite attractions in MK and a shell of itself. I would love it if you could see into the Laugh Floor or there was SOMETHING to look at when you drove through Stitch. And did they ever unblock Star Traders after they closed it off this fall? Its a lot of pitch black tunnels right now.
