Wow they were very non-committal about rivers of light itself in that preview. I've got a unsubstantiated feeling there's probably a 50/50 shot of it being canned altogether. I bet Jungle book winds up running longer, maybe using a bit of what they can salvage.

With everything made for rivers of light I don't think the show will be canned altogether. However I could see them modifying the show to take way some of those elements not working properly.

Canned all together? Probably not - but I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has to rework a lot of plans if they can't get the GPS tracking to work, which could delay the show longer.

This is interesting and probably a bit of a moonshot they self correct on.

The thing is this - while the wireless gps concept (if that IS the problem) is neat and fancy and allows for a more dynamic (read changeable) show - there are easily a half dozen other ways to get the exact same precision. Some more intensive or complex than others.

It would be interesting to know. This is where the engineer kicks in and I just want to get my hands dirty again and fix it. But alas... Gotta go take care of the beer instead.

I don't think ROL is going anywhere. The Jungle Book show sounds more like a concert type show than a night time spectacular. As mentioned before, it would be crazy to scrap the show and waste all that time and resources. Besides, ROL, even the limited bits I've seen so far, looks absolutely incredible.

Tom Corless was 'breaking' news that RoL was gearing up to launch just days before it was hard-postponed. People are quick to dismiss Jim Hill, but wdwnt's news is hardly reliable, unless clearly sourced from elsewhere.

Very true not the best source for rumors but sometimes they're right whether they're first to report I can't say.

Disney brought out Jane Goodall with the Disney Conservation Fund tonight for the awaken summer media event. They are previewing things at AK tonight.

The way you worded it makes it sound like they found her on the back of a shelf, dusted her off, dressed her up, and put a saddle on her hahah

And to think. The World of Avatar was not part of what was shown last night! To see all that and then throw the "More to Come..." caveat and the more is even larger and exciting than what they showed??? AK is looking like a great all day park in the next year. Which of course really messes with our tour plans!

Overall thoughts from the last few pages of postings:

1. The Rivers of Light soundtrack is going to be amazing -- I got the chills just watching the little bit that was in the posted video!
2. There is no way they scrap Rivers of Light completely....it's already really far along - they will figure out how to fix whatever issues they are having...though whatever it is, I doubt it will open before August/September at this point
3. The Jungle Book show they've put in place in the meantime will allow them to start the other nighttime attractions and still have something to draw a large number of people to in order to balance out the crowds in other areas of the park (i.e. everyone trying to do the safari and ride everest at night) - it also likely allows them to put the performers/CMs they have in place for Rivers of Light, etc. to work while the show issues are ironed out (and helps to draw more of the nighttime crowd and balance crowds out at MK, EP, and HS for the busy summer months)
4. Are you sure that nighttime safari video wasn't actually taken at sunset...the lighting is amazing! I bet some of the animals that are sometimes more difficult to spot during the day (as they are trying to find cool/shaded places to lay down and beat the heat) will be out and about/easier to see at night.
