It appears Disney is running surveys that are asking guests how they would feel of Disney charged a resort fee of $15 for things like wifi, magical express, and children's activities. They also asked if the guest was aware off site hotels already do this.

Would that be per day based on the survey questions? I remember when the Vegas hotels started with the resort fees of up to about $28/night for the luxury of using wifi and the fitness centres, and people were livid (I agree, as it really adds up, and maintaining free wifi is not going to put these hotels into bankruptcy). The lack of resort fees is one of the reasons that we started vacationing more at Disney. I wonder how they would incorporate it into DVC bookings. I would be extremely dismayed personally if they put this into practice, but it seems that the surveys have been the canaries that croak in the proverbial coal mine this last year (tiered pricing being the one that comes to mind first).

Also, as someone who just finished her first RunDisney event (by far the most fun race I've done, though also the slowest overall time by a ridiculous amount, lol) I found your article to be interesting and definitely newsworthy. News can also be thought of as expanding your horizons to consider new things you might try or new ideas you can consider, so I am really unclear on why anyone would complain about you posting that article. Please continue to do so.

I started running pretty regularly 2 years ago with the intent of being able to do a half marathon at Disney. I got up to around 7 miles without stopping before I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery and never recovered. I don't see myself every being able to run a full. The race it's self might be entertaining enough, but the training is so boring. I really want to do a Run-Disney event someday, but I just don't know if I can get to that level at my age.

There were a lot of people walking the half that I saw in February. I think Rundisney events lend themselves to many, many different levels, age groups, and capabilities, so don't count yourself out yet!

They set the pace at a 16 min mile, so you could walk or run/walk intervals. I use intervals because I don't want to be able to run the entire thing and I recover well this way. I agree the training is boring, which is why I only allow myself to listen to the dis podcasts when I'm running or at the gym.

You can do it. Even if you only do a 5K or 10K. The 5K is not timed so you don't have to worry as much. I think you would be fine with a 10K as well.

It's likely per day but the post I saw didn't mention it. The only hotel I've stayed at that does this is the Dophin but of course their resort is cheaper than a Disney resort.

It's funny, but when I stay at the cheaper mid-level hotels like Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites, wifi and parking are typically free. When I go to a conference for work and stay at a Hyatt or Ritz-Carlton, there is always a charge for parking and wifi.

Maybe Disney wants to be like the big boys.

Yes, but even then those big boys don't charge as much as Disney does.

in the beginning disney chanel was an additional pay chanel. those were the days before they decided to dumb down the chanel and aim it at tweens. I think if they became an HBO type pay for chanel as well as offer ways to stream it on other media, it would work. not sure how much per month they would ask but I bet there would be enough customers to make it profitable to do this

I think they could package it in a way that would be attractive for most people. The only hang-up I see is ESPN's insane amount of money they dump into broadcast rights. They'll need to recover that somehow. Forcing a cable subscription is the traditional method. I'm very interested to see how they proceed.

Disney used to charge for wifi and quite a bit. My wife was working online, and we always had to pay that fee.

It's an inconvenience, would like to see them not do it. But, if you need it for work.....tax write off.

Rteetz, please advertise what you've written for Dis on here. These forums are here to talk about Disney news with fellow Disney fans, you happen to run one of the best threads. I don't think it's a coincidence that you allow people to talk and SHARE. At the end of the day, it's getting people to talks out a Disney event I'm sure many didn't know about this morning. Interesting. Wifi is more and more becoming free at most hotels and resorts. It figures though that they finally would try to figure out a way to charge for ME. Get everyone hooked first then bury the fee.

I have noticed that wifi is often free at the cheap hotels but charged for at the expensive ones.

Walk parts. I certainly didn't run the whole way. I agree, I never liked the training because I don't like running, but it's a mental thing. I got passed by plenty of people much older than me. Heck, around here, I believe the guy who wins the 10k/5k consistantly is somewhere in his late 60s (he runs like sub 6 minute miles. He makes me sick ). You could definitely do a half, it's just getting over that mental hurdle.

@rteetz - I am with the majority on here. Your article was Disney related and I think it was perfectly fair to post. Yes, this is a news round up thread, but those of us that frequent it know it is more than just news its a chance to discuss what is going on at Disney. Keep posting them.
