We tend to bring in snacks like pretzels and Pistachios. I would probably continue to bring these in. More upsetting would be if they stopped us from bringing in our bottles of water. I know they give out ice water at the counter service, but I'd much rather be able to re-hydrate whenever I want without having to push through a counter service line-up to get it.

I'm sure they have to draw the line somewhere but it's unclear what that line is. I also think it really has to do with people bringing in coolers to have lunch on a bench or something.

Disney is considering no longer allowing people to bring in food to the parks. The only way they would allow such is for special dietary reasons.

Sounds like a huge crowd is gonna suddenly have "dietary restrictions" and bag check will be even more disastrous (those 40 minute pics for the weekend - sigh)...

I always see those pictures but I have honestly never had a problem at bag check.

I would absolutely read that much into it. It makes sense does it not? Take it down during the time where the least amount of people are in the parks (according to their tier strategy)

I don't see it as doing anything differently than they would have done in the past. If they start announcing refurbs of MULTIPLE rides during the same time period - THEN, I might be persuaded to think it is all part of a long-term strategy. But one refurb that is pushed back does not indicate a huge shift in operations.

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that Disney is saying that they are tiering prices to attract guests away from busy times, yet they will be offering less experiences during value/slower times? Isn't that counterproductive if they make the value season less attractive? To me, this just reaffirms the fact it is about money, and not crowd control.

It's really not counter productive. The value season's attraction is the less expensive rate and the highest tier is the most expensive but, at least going by this theory/rumor, would have all the rides open.

Disney are banking on people not being willing to deal with gluten free/sugar free/peanut free snacks just to save a few dollars over Disney snack prices.

That said, for all the reasons given above, if they start blocking parents of younger children from bringing a pack of 'pacifier' pretzels into the parks they're going to see a lot of pushback.

The problem with this is pinching on both sides. You lengthen all the lines due to pinching the bag checkers and cashiers, then take away people's snacks. The combination of the two sounds like more upset unhappy children further draining the magic and enjoyment factor. Seems like it should be an either or choice but trying to do both is a recipe for a bad guest experience.

Yeah, I'm not one to get overly excited about theme park merchandise, but that SSE one hits a lot of bases for me.

Yep. Kind of difficult to operationalize, but you could start with food ok, but "no coolers". The definition of "cooler" would then be explained verbally, but not printed for guests, so that CMs are using some reasonable judgment of not pulling away a special dietary container full of baby formula but prohibit from the full picnic.

I really hope you are right and that they keep it within a clearly definable/enforceable set of boundaries (akin to the differentiation between selfie-sticks and go-pro grips). I just hope they don't try to stop guests such as myself from bringing in bottles of water or using a Camel-Bak (we use ours as a back-pack).

My wife and I are going to WDW at the beginning of April. I have followed this thread (and the previous) for a few years. We have gone to WDW multiple times a year each of the past few years (which is why we decided to become passholders). Keeping up with the News and Rumors thread every trip prior to this one has gotten me even more pumped up. This is the first trip that I find the more I read, the more down I am about going. I may be over-thinking at this point, but I have to admit that I have switch gears internally from looking forward to the trip to just hoping it won't be a let down. My wife is in the same boat. We were planning on renewing our APs as soon as they became eligible this month (we have the money put aside), but we are now going to hold off until after our April trip. I am trying not to make any true judgments until I experience things first hand, but I can honestly say many of these news and rumor postings seem to be stripping away that coat of magic.

I love the 28 and Main merchandise - it's really the only thing I buy anyone. The Adventurer's Club sign I got last year was through them, and in February, I picked up a "Tropical Hideaway Karaoke Hut" as below. I personally like Disney gear that doesn't SCREAM "Disney", and the 28 and main stuff really does this.

I think that is reasonable to not want people to bring in full meals/buckets of KFC/etc. ... but yeah, if they start cracking down on snacks and stuff that would be a bit ridiculous. Same with bottled water (wonder if legally they have to allow that to prevent dehydration)

I don't know if they have to allow that though because they provide free ice water inside.

I don't understand this whole complaint about refurbs during value season. Disney World and Land have both used slow times to catch up on maintenance for years. Disneyland reduces staff and will often only run one side of iasw or pirates. Why is that making people upset all of a sudden? Especially if the ticket is cheaper. And who the heck buys a 1-day for Wdw anyway?

And Disney won't prevent snacks. I can see preventing coolers and being stricter about only Disney food at Disney tables but they aren't stupid enough to get between picky toddlers and their snacks. No one wants that

Agreed. I haven't purchased anything from the line yet, but it's nice to have mens' options that are not so garish. Sort of a guys' version of what Tren-D (sp?) offers.

We don't do coolers either just small snacks and then I bring water bottle (like thermos ones) so I can have water on myself and my daughter at all times. I get the ice water at the counter service locations and refill my bottles but mine stay cold because they are insulated.
