News Round Up 2016

Two of the Soarin Theaters will be FP only then one standby only.

Double the Soarin FP+ allotment.

It is a new movie and clearer picture as well correct?

I'm not sure if you've been to Disneyland's soarin since they updated their projectors... But oh my gosh its like night and day. If you haven't rode Disneyland's you're going to be so impressed.

in april Mk is going to one night parade, one wishes and one castle show nightly. This is because they don't think they will need any more because the demand will be at AK and DHS. so you really don't need fast pass but there will still be cast members in the area policing for safety I am sure, they just won't have the scanners. also the cuts have to do more with shifting labor around the parks and keeping costs low because cast members are scheduled to get a 50 cent and hour raise come the first of may and operational expenses are budgeted on a quarterly basis. Eventhough park attendance has been up march- may is still slow compared to other times of the year with the exception of the two weeks around easter.

There are already multiple threads discussing the cost cutting, including in this forum. Those are the avenues that should be used for your comments. This thread has discussed the issue already and moved on to other news topics. This helps to keep this thread less cluttered. Thank you

i was talking mostly about why fast pass isn't going to be for wishes and there were several comments about cost cutting on this thread.
That's interesting because many say Soundsational is better than FoF. I've never seen Soundsational in person so I won't judge until I do so but I love FoF.
I have seen both parades and soundsational is a good fit for DL. Remember WDW is a much larger park and it was built for parades. DL wasn't. Parades as we know them didn;t show up at DL until 1970's. also soundsational is a little older than FOF. that being said. I wish we could get the equivilent of paint the night in florida. I would really prefer Paint the night version 2.0 because I loved that parade.

TV News

Turner Classic Movies has announced the next installment of "Treasures from the Disney Vault," scheduled for Wednesday, March 9.
http://www.tcm.com/disney/

Schedule (Eastern Time Zone):

8:00pm - The Whalers (1938)/Sea Scouts (1939)
8:30pm - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) (One of my favorite old live-action Disney movies)
10:45pm - Disneyland: Operation Undersea (1954) (20,000 Making Of)
11:45pm - Merbabies (1938)
12:00am - Secrets of Life (1956) (True-Life Adventure)
1:30am - Nikki, Wild Dog of the North (1961)
3:00am - Return to Snowy River (1988)
4:45am - Lt. Robin Crusoe, USN (1966) (Starring Dick Van Dyke -- I've always wanted to see this)

This is a bit of a longer program than usual, which is nice. "Return to Snowy River" seems like an odd choice -- but by that time in the night, Leonard Maltin has stopped hosting and the selections typically feel a little random.

Rumor

Frozen ever after will be FP only...
Well actually the entirety of Jim and Len's thoughts on Frozen's FP+ dilemma is that Frozen Ever After as well as Three Caballeros will open with Future World and FEA will be FP exclusive until World Showcase opens at 11 and then the standby line will begin loading.
Rumor is that they will take Honey I Shrunk the Kids and turn it into A Bug's Life play area to re-purpose it with a better known property in the animation universe.
I think that was part of the Pixar Place expansion prior to the Pixar lands concept.

I am wondering if the morning is only FP+ would Disney incorporate some kind of ticket for those who are going to Akershus for breakfast? Or if they will do anything at all for those going to the restaurant? It would make extra money and I am sure breakfasts and early lunches may be close to selling out for the summer......

Well...it's been awhile so here goes:

Fastpasses for fireworks and parades are the DUMBEST idea I've seen them roll out in years. But apparently quite tasty to lemmings

I agree they are using them to fill the options-- however, for our over exposed touring, it can be nice to get to have a reserved location to not get elbowed in, for the occasional evening show.... they just need to reduce the count-- in the first days the space was much more open. Now they pack it not much different from non FP.

I'm one of the lemmings who uses the wishes fp. Then again, I've never been told to stand by cms. It is quite nice to be able to sprawl on the ground and get off my tired feet on day 9 of the trip while everyone else is packed in like sardines standing outside the fence.

Poor lemmings always get a bad shake. They weren't really that dumb.

I use it too-- but they no longer let you sit-- in the beginning they did, but there no longer is enough room to "sprawl".

I've heard elsewhere that frozen would be FP not just from Jim.

Double the Soarin FP+ allotment.

It is a new movie and clearer picture as well correct?

Soarin' was running at 80/20 FP/Standby - Ride capacity is roughly 750 per theater per hour, so the old way, there was 1200 per hour via FP+ and 300 per hour via standby.

The new way - if correct in that one theater is standby and two are FP+, gives you 1500 per hour via FP+, or a 25% increase. The standby capacity will go from 300 to 750, giving you a 150% increase is standby capacity. Good news for standby riders.

In theory this will shorten wait times.

In reality it probably just means more people will get in line, and the wait times will still be in the 1-2 hour range.

The fact is also there will be some overflow into the FP theaters - otherwise early and late the FP theaters won't be filled.

Sure...if you want to pay $10 more a head for the restaurant.

Akershus needs some new life. This is the classic example of characters selling something that isn't very good. A typically magic kingdom area phenomenon...
