News Round Up 2016

Actually - that's one of the few I would consider. You basically get into Trader Sam's when it's closed. If you consider that you probably get to mix AND drink at least 3 trader sam's drinks, you are probably getting $50 worth of drinks as well. Wonder if they let you leave with a souvenir glass. That is one that would fall under the "regular rip-off" category. Unfortunately we won't be there for it.

We did a mixology class at F&W a few years ago and didn't get to do any actual mixing. Just got to watch a guy on stage do the mixing, take some notes, and then try mass-produced versions of that drink. Granted - it was only $25 for the class, but I'm not sure that WDW has the permits for people to be mixing their own drinks.

Right - I'm assuming at $99 price point, at least some people will get to mix drinks. It sounds similar to the mixology things they do on the cruises. At $99 you are least going to get to DRINK the drinks.

While I expected an interactive environmental element, Disney is hopefully carefully scrutinizing the reality of this technology in a high traffic area. There has been some talk of interactive elements being placed off the main path; they are most likely concerned with wear on such elements. I hope they are wise enough to not go with a touch system instead relying on proximity activation. Otherwise there are going to be worn areas on these plants that look unnatural and could lead to some costly maintenance. I like the concept of the tree that rains on you or in keeping more with Avatar maybe ones that change their luminescence based on your proximity.

Similarly I was worried for Kong when the stand up/"sit down" response story broke because I was worried people would try and stand up to get that response and cause ride delays. Luckily I haven't heard an issue with it yet.

Rumor:

According to WDWNT, Disneyland may not present nightly fireworks for a lenghty period of time due to Star Wars land construction going on right where the firework launching area is.

Now, this is more believable than the cost cutting rumors we saw a few weeks ago. At DL ToonTown gets closed every night during fireworks due to its proximity to the firework launching area, which of course is very close to Star Wars land. Now, the real question is, if Disneyland Forever gets cancelled, will they replace it for an alternative night time show until either Fantasmic or the fireworks come back?

That sounds really cool. Having lots of interactive props and interesting stuff to play with is what makes these new lands so attractive and cool. However, with all these little details and effects I just keep wondering whether they'll keep working after the first couple of years or not.

Spirited rumor update

Guardians of the galaxy is going into an Epcot pavilion.

Guardians is still going into ToT at DCA.

Disneyland forever is indeed ending in September. Fantasy in the sky will come back for a short time as they work on an official replacement.

Fantasmic 2.0 slated for a June 2017 debut.

Even further expansion of the DCL fleet is being looked at. More than just two more ships that have already been announced. Even another island (I said that would be happening over a year ago).

Brand new Disney Dreams show is coming for DLP 25th anniversary.

1. I can see it going into Future World. I'm fine with it. Epcot just needs something

3. I believe more in the rumor of Disney getting rid of the fireworks altogether for a while because of Star Wars land construction going on.

4. I can see that happening after the Rivers of America work is done at Disneyland. Hopefully WDW's version will also receive some updates.

6. Definitely happening. It's not that expensive to change some of the projections, and they can sell it as a brand new nighttime show.

That's part of this rumor as well but Disneyland is supposedly working to modify one of their older shows with some of the new tech they brought in for Disneyland forever. I've also heard the fireworks launch site might change with Star Wars land.

While I'm happy to hear that EPCOT may be getting some love, I'm sensing that Disney may be throwing the educational aspects of the park out the window (starting with Froway...well, probably really with The Seas with Nemo & Friends). And that makes me sad. Unless they somehow can tie it into to some science (space/astronomy?).

I think the true "education" component of EPCOT will become less and less. I recall even under the proposed Project Genesis it would have pushed the park to be less "educational" and more about "discovery" ... and so I think things can still fit into that theme

Having Froway encourages people to visit the pavilion and Discover about Norway
Nemo helps draw people in to discover about the oceans and sea life
Guardians of the Galaxy could be the same - draw them in to discover about space travel or something like that (though not sure how this would fit into another pavilion when they already have Mission Space). The obvious pavilion to put something brand new in would be Wonders of Life so unless they are using that to teach about different species or something, not sure how it fits

Re: Educational, Epcot has been falling down in this area for years. The whole energy pavilion is severely outdated. They've got what, spaceship earth and if you stretch, test track?

I would hope DL changes their location for the fireworks launch site. If it's that close to Star Wars Land now, I can't see why Disney would want to close that area off for any time during the evening. The Land would be too popular to risk alienating their customers by closing it down even if temporarily.
