News Round Up 2016

I'm beginning to think my mid-may trip might be pointless and I should just delay it. I thought I would get to see a couple of things like the old Soarin' film, rivers of light, Safari/Everest at night, or at least the 3rd track for TSMM by then, but it seems like there won't be anything new until Memorial Day.

Also, I had high hopes for the Slinky Coaster but that video they showed look extremely lame. I'm fine with it being a family coaster, but it looks more like a completely flat and straight track.

I completely agree with this position. If that was a policy that was enforced consistently there wouldn't be an issue. However, as you stated, removing the offenders doesn't happen. Clearly Disney could manage the situation, and for what ever reason they have decided not to. And really, this topic could take on a life of it's own. I apologize for opening that can of worms, Ryan! Instead of starting a new debate on alcohol in the parks, we could just dig up one of the many zombie threads and beat that poor horse some more! Please, let's focus on the better news of the day. Again, my apologies for bringing it up.
It's okay as long as it doesn't take over the thread.

I just want to throw shoes and rotten tomatoes at Bob Chapek. Boo hiss.
I will never become accustomed to alcohol in the parks.

I've played my share of beer pong, and still enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, but I do not like alcohol being sold at Disney parks. EPCOT is not a place for my kids after dark, with all the drunk frat boys acting stupid, and I loathed explaining to my kids what the girl in the too short dress at Universal meant when she said, "And I'm not saying this just because I'm drunk, but I want him to ____me." I hope they limit it to only inside restaurants, no beer kiosks or walking around beverages.

There are probably a hundred other reasons to throw shoes and rotten tomatoes at Chapek before we even get to alcohol in the parks (which was always there anyway in the non-MK parks long before he took over the parks division).

Absolutely! At least a hundred reasons. I wasn't blaming him for the alcohol in the parks, and yes, there is quite a history of alcoholic beverages at various properties.

I think that was most updates I've had to do at once ever.

Yes, lots of updates. Really good ones too. Even though it seems too much at one time and not enough at others. Many things not the Disney standard I've come to expect (It was stated earlier that now we just know more due to the internet, etc.---agreed). So I'll go with the saying ---it doesn't matter if the glass if half-full or half-empty, people forget that you can refill the glass. Looking forward to RoL & nighttime safari. I have a lot to look forward to on my trip in October. Now I just need them to release MNSSHP & MVMCP ticket prices.

Thanks for all that you do @rteetz!

I do want to say all the updates all at once are very cool and it's really nice to have dates to all the shows. Disney must feel pretty good these are all going to hit on schedule, because they already saw the negative feedback from the April 22nd date.

I feel like that's two bits of breaking news. The first one being "Jim Hill was right!"

The same thought occurred to me...Jim Hill does get it right sometimes, but usually in these type of cases where it is short-term news. But credit where credit is due...he did get it right.

MY OPINION: There are plenty of people who drink responsibly. There are SOME who drink irresponsibility. Why should I, as a responsible person who enjoys tasting the beverages from many countries, be subjected to either the scenario of: a) NOT being allowed to sample these beverages, or b) being subjected to the drunk and disorderly.

People who are disorderly, for whatever reason, should be asked to leave the park, and assisted in that if necessary.

You hit the nail on the head with the last statement. I would argue that getting drunk at Epcot when you are staying at a Disney hotel with a shuttle bus IS drinking responsibly, but being drunk and being disorderly do NOT have to go together. There are plenty of people that have excessive beverages at F&W and do NOT behave in a rude manner. Disney should increase security for food and wine, and then implement a behaviour policy. It seems to me that it's only a matter of time until they get their butts sued over this.

Excited for all the new things coming this summer! With a trip the first week of June, will we likely miss out on the new fireworks at Hollywood Studios and Frozen Ever After? I had thought they'd debut on Memorial day weekend, but looks like later in June.

I am there that week too. The last I heard is the fireworks were rumored to open on June 5th. Did that change? I might have missed it with all the news that has been coming out.

what about the rumor of the old soarin' film running until the new film is released? I was thinking you had mentioned that, but I can't remember. Is that rumor dead?

Seems to be since they are opening Fastpass+ tomorrow starting with the June 17 date.

Couldn't they still conceivably open Soarin' with the old film before June 17th though? I especially see that happening if Frozen will open before that date, since there needs to be somewhere else for the Epcot crowds to go.
