We loved doing the house tour. You can buy a ticket and see maybe 4 of the mansions. They are amazing!

The cliff walk was very nice. And just walking around the town.

Tour the mansions, cliff walk, downtown has tons of shops, Tennis Hall of Fame, and Flow's Clam Shack is a great place to eat. Newport has so many things to do. Enjoy!

Since you are going in October then you can also experince Haunted Newport. They have a very interesting ghost/history tour on the weekends it was lots of fun last year. Also you might want to eat at Elizabeth's for a really different experience, also the White Horse Tavern is fantastic with a lot of history attached. I would definately take the ghost tour it starts at The Marriott.

Shops aroond the marina are good. I always liked the Ocean Drive. I have to second the mansions. The tours are exceptional.
