Newport or Sequoia?

Hi, We're looking to go to DLRP at the end of March and are stuck choosing between these two hotels! We have stayed in the Sequoia and the Cheyenne before but I fancy trying somewhere different this time, we've stayed offsite the last 3 times and I'm really looking forward to being able to walk back to the hotel and not have the scrum of the buses!

As there are 7 of us, me, husband and our 5 children we need 2 rooms. I have been pricing it up and the Newport is £75 more expensive per room, so £150 in total, thats for 4 days/ 3nights. Do you think it is worth the extra £150 or would I be better off sticking to the Sequioa?

Also I've read some bad reviews of both hotels recently and am now worried that I'm going to be disappointed when we get there, but I suppose I can just ask to be moved if the room's that bad, why is nothing ever simple, lol.

Thanks in advance for any help. Charlotte

I'm amusing myself now, wondering in which order we will post........:rotfl2: there are quite a few of us who have stayed at both and we all have very definite opinions. You won't get one answer, I'm afraid!

here's my opinion anyway.....

I have stayed at Sequoia Lodge on 4 occasions, once in a lodge and 3 times in a Montana room. I liked it each time, but definitely more in a Montana room. I found it cosy, warm, clean, nice at breakfast and, particularly liked the Redwood Bar as a place to dive into after the Park closes. Sitting next to the warm log fire and talking through the day was lovely. :cloud9:

We stayed in the Newport Bay 2 months ago. The room was very nice, breakfast was nice too. The swimming pool was great, although a long way from at least half of the rooms. We didn't try the bars - they didn't seem to be open very late and they didn't look terribly inviting. I found the hotel very scruffy - from the outside it looked a bit mouldy in places and very dusty in places inside. All walls are in a very light colour, which is nice, but it shows every scuff mark - every single suitcase rub, buggy mark. Obviously this didn't effect our holiday in any way, but it was noticeable.

People speak very highly of Admirals Floor, but we didn't try that.

I would stay at Sequoia Lodge again any day. Newport Bay - meh - not bothered.

We have never been to the Newport Bay Hotel. Sequoia four times. We always seem to go in the winter months. Either February holidays or Halloween. Sequoia would always be my choice for winter as the reception area and bar area are so cosy. I am waiting for the day I go in Summer and then Newport Bay would definitely be my first choice.

Another vote for the Sequoia here, we have stayed at both and much prefer the SL; we stayed in a lake view Montana room and at the Newport an Admirals floor room so comparable room types yet the SL was just far nicer. I am tempted to stay for one night at the Newport next time we stay just to see if things are any better!

About the same walking distance from the lakeside exit to each hotel, Newport bay goes around the lake one way, Sequoia lodge the other. 5 minutes tops to the village, another 5 to the park gates.

It all comes down to how far from that exit you are, Newport Bay is a HUGE hotel, so you could be over 10 minutes walk from that door.

My votes for Sequoia too, it's a lovely hotel, really cosy and yummy.

Have stayed in both and I liked both. Returned from Sequoia 2 days ago and it was a lovely hotel. The only thing that I was shocked at were the prices in the bar. We had three sandwiches, 1 nachos (just plan crisps with salsa), 2 coffees, 1 beer and one coke and it came to a staggering €50. Would defo stay there again but take snacks with us!

I'd say NPB but then we had a superb stay there, compared with 2 disappointing ones at SL.
I don't pay much attention to other people's reviews, especially the ones that say, room tatty, carpet dirty etc., because you can be unfortunate to get one of those in any of the hotels, as I found out twice at SL. lol

Personally I want to try all of the Disney hotels and I think staying somewhere different adds to the excitement of the holiday.

Gonna vote for the Sequoia as we love it (have stayed everywhere but DLH) and didn't have great stays in the NPB (not bad ones, just not worth paying extra from the SL).

As jillrobinson says tho, you can get nice or horrible rooms anywhere.
We moved rooms in the SL the other day as we were in a horribly laid out little corner room (Montana Room) with one tiny window - we got moved to a similar sized one but it had windows on all walls and the bonus of having a balcony which was about 3 times the size of the actual room!!

:goodvibes

My vote goes to Sequoia Lodge!!! We've stayed in both and I didn't like NPB at all!!!

Sequoia fan here too lol

We stayed there last year and in general the hotel is lovely, it really feels like a woodland area lodge and the hotel is big enough that it makes for a nice hidey-hole after a hectic park day. We loved our room which was pretty spacey but it should be noted that pior to this we had only stayed at Santa Fe previous

Staff were friendly and we got a few nice character opportunities while there, plus the lounge has lovely sofas. The swimming pool area is nice too, has a sauna and Jaccuzi, the pool is okay but rather deep (though they do provide floaty bits)

Had a peek at Newport during our stay and in general it felt more cramped, hotel is made of thin corridors with few open spaces. Imagine the rooms are fine and the swimming pool looks bigger and better mind!. Just didnt dig the layout, specially as Sequoia and New York are pretty spacious
