Hi all, staying at the Hyatt in early May, does anyone have recommendations as to restaurants to try (family ones) or what to see in Newport Beach etc?

Cheers,

Balboa island is fun and has an arcade, you can also rent bikes to ride along the coast. Ruby's usually at the end of a pier like Seal Beach ( I think Huntington) are good fot kids. There is also a Johnny Rockets in Huntington Beach. If you are there on a weekend try to make it to the Orange County Swap Meet.

Any good seafood restaurants overlooking the ocean/harbor ??

It's been years: But the warehouse was always good.
Las Brisas is a little ways down the coast but nice.
The Chart House
The Four Crowns
Thats all I can think of right now, I'll check with the family that's still in the OC.
Luckey
Also The Ruben E. Lee (an old Paddle Boat that is now a restruant)

You don't say which Hyatt. I assume it's in Newport Beach? If so, you'll have a lot of dining options at nearby Fashion Island which is a shopping center. There's a Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Changs, Thaifoon, Roy's (like the one's in Hawaii), California Pizza Kitchen, El Torito Grill and many, many more. Of the aforementioned, California Pizza Kitchen and El Torito Grill will probably be the most kid friendly although any of the restarauants I mentioned will accomadate kids. There are also quite a few fast food and what they call "fast causal restaurants". Whaoo's Fish Taco is one of those fast causals that is pretty popular around here. It's surf culture meets Mexican food. If you don't like fish, don't worry, there's quite a bit to choose from.

luckey-lasvegas, there is no Johnny Rockets in Huntington Beach. You're probably thinking of Ruby's on the pier. Similar concept so I can see the confusion.

RalphMouth, two restaurants right on the beach are Chimayo's at the Beach and Duke's, both located right next to the pier in Huntington Beach. Actually, Chimayo's is on the beach and Duke's is upstairs but Duke's has a fantastic view of the ocean as well. Although not strictly a seafood restaurant, both have seafood. Duke's is a branch of the Hawaiian restaurants so they might have more seafood to offer.
