So my 13 year old - who is already status post liver transplant (10 years ago) just got diagnosed with type one diabetes this week.
We have a trip to disney already planned in December - and now i am especially glad we're going because I feel like we really deserve it. Ironically her dad has been to disney with us 3 times and I never worried about his diabetes because he just eyeballs his food and makes a carb guess. I know all the walking made his blood sugar go lower.
Anyway right now we are just getting started with her carb counting etc. and it's a lot. Hopefully by the time our trip comes we will be pro's - but in general i am wondering - are there resources people have used for disney and carb counting/type one diabetes? anyone been there/done that and have tips for us?

as fair as carb counting I just WAG it ( wild a__ guess) but in all honesty get calorie king( free app in the app store) you will get used to guessing at most foods.

BG can go down with all the walking excitement het and just for the fun of it.

I go to disney about once a month any where form a day trip to a week long trip some things

test more then you think you need to
bring extra things for low BG
stay hydrated
rest if she is going low a lot ( first aid is a great place) also meal times can be a time to rest some
make sure she eats it is so tempting to go go go but you really need to make sure she a fuel in her body to keep going

also have you heard of FFL ( friends for life) it is a conference held in Orlando every year they just had in last week next year it will be on disney condodo springs if you can go then I would go they do give out soloships to go so if you can not afford to go you may still be able to go.

I hope you have a great trip

and all the advice is my own option other will have others

Frio bags are great to store insulin in.

And just add your hotel fridge is NOT a good place with a trip in December you may not need a FRIO bag. I hardly use mine and I go to Disney some times for a week with out using a FRIO bag but if you feel better using a FRIO bag then this is a really option so insulin dose not back. But do not use the hotel fridge AKA. How I froze 3 or 4 viles on ddiffernt trips.

Bring zofran along. It helps with the nausea of going too high or too low.
Bring twice the number of supplies.
Bring some sugar/juice boxes along with for lows.

Have fun!

My daughter was diagnosed about 3 months before a planned trip to Disney World (our first) and did great.
She did fine during the day - would dip at night.
Tried to get a good snack in at bedtime to help with that.
