Newly Diabetic and Nervous

I am also type 2 diabetic and have been to WDW 3 times. Other posters have given you some great tips. Be sure to use good sunscreen and reapply as needed. Some of the new aerosol sunscreens are really great and easy to apply. Be sure to get the top of your ears, neck and nose. Side effects of one of the medications that I take is that one is more prone to sunburn, so sun protection is very important. Bring a carryall bag w/ you into the parks. Be sure to pack plenty of water and several different types of snacks. Nuts seem to be a great snack for me. Something else to keep in mind is to bring very comfortable shoes w/ you. Don't go out and buy new shoes right before your trip. I bring my most comfortable shoes even though they don't look all that great w/ shorts. I also bring a pair of flip-flops or slipons to change into when I get back to my room. Your feet get very sweaty at WDW and you need to keep on top of it. I always bring at least 2 pairs of shoes. They do take up alot of room in your luggage, but WDW is alot of walking and you don't want to risk getting blisters. It will put a damper on your trip. I don't tend to be much of a snacker between meals, but it is important to have a few snacks while at Disney. You should do fine. You will also become aware of what your sugar levels are by how you are feeling. I can tell when I have a high or low and need to take care of it. Have a great time and Hydrate! Ed

At www.Croc.com they have Rx Crocs for Diabetics, I love mine!! And so much cheaper than the $150.00 Sandels that I was wearing before!!

I got the Crocsrx, Silver Cloud, all the benefits of the cloud diabetic comfort shoe plus silver. impregnated with silver particles, the silver cloud creates an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal environment for the foot. They only had red in my size, but that was the color I secretly wanted, Disney, Mickey Mouse, and all.

Thank you Ed - everyone needs a grumpy uncle to give them advice. You have all been so great - the shoe concern is high for me - I have neuropothy from a past bought with cancer so I have little feeling in my feet. I get blisters without even feeling a hot spot. I had not remembered the diabetic foot concerns - now I remember my mom telling my dad to check his feet all the time. Funny how those memories are coming back now that it's me "in their shoes!"

NO WAY! I'm off with credit card in hand!

Thanks!
