Newborns at Disney

I really think that is going to be a struggle for her at 3.5 weeks postpartum from a c-section, especially the first one. Maybe I was just a wimp though... I pushed it kind of hard walking wise after my second one and my incision got infected around 2 weeks... it was nasty for weeks after that. I just don't think it's worth it unless that person lives close and goes all the time and is mostly going to sit and people watch.

I'm going to put this as diplomatically as possible.

I can't imagine taking a newborn to a Disney Park. What is the point? They dont know where they are, they can't appreciate it. No, I don't mean in a "this is Walt's place" kind of way, but in an "overstimulation" kind of way. Do you really want to take your child while they're still in that "I will cry just because I feel like it" or that "I'm crying because i'm tired and inconsolable" way? My aunt started taking my goddaughter when she was 2, once, we brought her and she wanted to go on the Mark Twain, but grew impatient as the boat offloaded its previous passengers (which is a slow process) and explaining to her to be patient of course, didn't work. My aunt was forced to pull us all out of line, because she would not calm down. Why? Because she was just too young to understand you have to wait. Do you really want to go through that?

My mother waited to take me until I was out of diapers and out of the stroller and that in no way meant she couldn't "see it through my eyes". You don't become jaded after the age of two. And my mother always had a saying, "Changing diapers is NOT the thing to do at the Happiest Place on Earth".

I never have understood wanting to take a child who's going to be just as happy at a local city park, and for less money. I would rather save the first visit and make it significant to the child's life. but that's just me.

If it was natural birth maybe but no one I know personally was ready to walk that much after a c-section. I think you can possibly deal with a newborn, but Mom will most likely be miserable. Heck one of my friends at 6 weeks was still miserable at DL and she is local and was only there for a short trip.

Well, I will pass all of this along to her and then I'll let you know how she does!

The only opinion that really matters is yours. You will know what you can handle and what seems excessive. You will know how your baby will be: fussy, easy, or somewhere in between and that can help you plan out your trip. As you said, they will only be 3.5 weeks and babies LOVE:lovestruc to sleep  so it might go very smooth. Another thing to take into account is the time of year you will be going to DLR. Knowing what kind of crowds to expect will also help you a lot.

I don't have any kids of my own but I was old enough to help take care of my baby sister when she was born. She took her first trip when she was two and we went to celebrate my 8th grade graduation. She did very well but she was a very friendly, easy going baby.

Best of luck and I hope you have a wonderful time!:cutie:

P.S. The baby care center is really wonderful. It's a nice, cool room where you can nurse, change or rock the baby. We went in there a few times and I wish I could have stayed there!

*EDIT TO ADD* WOAH! I just read they mom in question is having a planned C-section! I think it's a bad, bad, BAD idea. Unless you plan on having mom in a wheelchair because I know after 3.5 weeks my mom was no where ready for a DLR trip.

I have to agree. The baby would probably be fine, it's mom I'm worried about. As you know, a c-section is major abdominal surgery. I can't imagine walking around that much 3-4 MONTHS after being cut open like that, much less 3/4 weeks. If she's dead set on going, I'd suggest a wheel chair or scooter.

This is great info. We're going this weekend for my birthday, and my DD will be 6 months old. Most people have been telling me that's a great age to take babies! As long as she's ok in the car ride down there (7+ hours), I think we'll do just fine. :thumbsup2

Like mentioned C-section is major surgery. 7 layers I think (sorry if TMI.) It is a lot more demanding than having your appendix out. On top of that you have a baby to look after.

I had a C-section. This is in Australia - 7 years ago when DD was born you weren't allowed to drive a car for 6 weeks.

Even with baby-swapping she wouldn't be able to go on so so so many rides as she is recovering from surgery.
