We went to the Food and Wine Fest a few years ago. It rained the whole time, so be sure to prepare for bad weather.

Thanks for all the info, I have already started looking for a fan and checking out strollers. I guess I should also look for a rain cover of some sort for the stroller as well. Although, if its raining a lot, I won't be out at the parks.

I have to second the sling/carrier and baby care center suggestions. We took our baby when she was 4 months, but still pretty small because she was a preemie. I kept her in my Baby Bjorn most of the time. She loved it. When she was tired, I'd have her facing me to snuggle or sleep. When she was awake, I'd face her out so she could see everything. When the group went on rides I couldn't with the baby, we went into the baby care center to nurse or a shop to enjoy the A/C. Because she was in the carrier most of the time, few people tried to touch her because she was so close to me. That seems to be a deterrent for baby touchers - the mom's personal space. This could be a great chance for you to bond with your new baby and they can bond with the whole family.

The Mac Quest that I recently ordered came with a rain shield that snaps right onto the stroller (I believe- I havent opened it and tried it out yet as baby is due in a few weeks). Macs are great- steer so easily and are so lightweight!!

We took our newborn to WDW when he was 6-7 weeks old. We adopted him at birth. My parents flew down with us and that was heavenly! He was the first grandchild and I hardly got to hold him all week...I practically had to pry him out of my mother's arms! We were there in October then, as well. I'd say as long as your pediatrician is okay with it, go and have a blast. Take lots of pictures...they grow so fast!

Congratulations on your adoption! We've adopted 2 other times since then too.

As the mom of 2 active boys and a new baby......Take the baby and enjoy. It will be the easiest time you'll ever have keeping track of them and no whining

Seriously though I took both my kiddos as infants and really it was the easiest time for us. It's much more hectic now as they've grown (now 7 and 5 the baby hasn't been yet she's going for her 1st bday). Sure there's lots of things to worry about and you've had great feedback on things to think about but really you could worry at home. It's better to be stressed at Disney in my opinion

We too are traveling with our two at the end of September with DS who is 2 1/2 and DS who will be 3 1/2 months.

As far as strollers go I would check out a Zooper. I have a Waltz and I love it way more than my friends MAC. They are a great brand similar to the Maclaren but already come with a sun shade, rain cover and boot - three things that I plan to take in case the weather becomes an issue.

We keep getting you are nuts to take a baby. But I think caring for a baby is hard even when you are home and if it were up to me I would rather be at Disney. Lucky you are traveling with family too. Have fun!

Congratulations!!!! We brought my youngest at 5 months and he basically slept through it.It was an easy very pleasant trip.Now ,last year at 2....not so much sleeping happening.We also stayed at the BWV and that is my personal fave.We strolled around the boardwalk and took in the fireworks from there.You have a great view and don't have to worry about the noise.Oh ,just keep that baby hydrated.If he is sleeping and hot you may have to wake him up to drink a bit. 30 DAYS til BWV (shhhh surpise trip!!!)

Our Maclaren Quest also came with a rain cover. We used it several time at Disney. We oftern covered the stroller while we were eating or at an attraction in case it rained while we were inside. We also used it a couple times during heavy downpours. The cover worked great and did not make dd sweaty at all! The rain cover is simple to snap on, although I would recomend trying it for the first time at home so you know how to quickly put it on. You can leave the cover in the bottom of the stroller and fold it up with it still in the basket too!

You can buy a snap n go stroller to fit just about any car seat with a base - that makes transitioning from car to stroller super easy when they're tiny. But a better option if you don't already have a car seat (IMO) is the Combi stollers and car seats. I don't know the model names, but the stroller is a lightweight one that folds very small, and the Combi car seats fit into them perfectly. It's a lightweight, easy to manage pair that you can use from tiny newborn and then use the stroller for years. You can also buy the double combi stroller and snap an infant seat into one side of it and leave the other side free for an older child.

While it is great that he is going to a loving home...he will not be breastfed which is what really jump starts a baby's immune system.

did you ask her if she was going to breastfeed? Alot of my friends who adopted newborns, breastfed. It takes a little more work in the beginning, but it's definately possible...

I reacted so badly to the hormones for IVF, I didn't want to try the hormones needed to induce lactation....though I seriously considered it. Most will still need to supplement from my reading, but you can use a system made by Medela that allows you to feed formula through a small tube taped to your breast.

Are you doing an open adoption? DS's birthmom nursed him at the hospital for three days (colostrum), then pumped, froze, and Fed Exed us breastmilk for about a month. We mixed it in with his formula, about 1/2 and 1/2 and it lasted about 8 weeks. Not every family will be comfortable with this, but it was beneficial for us, and for her as she felt it was giving him the best start in life.

Oh and I can't believe I forgot! Due to an ICPC SNAFU, he and hubby had to fly back to his state of birth when he was 4 weeks (DH is a stay at home dad, I am a work at home mom...and I had to work!). He did great on the plane, slept the whole way, then in a hotel with just hubby for a week with visits from birthmom and aunt and friends.

We went at the beginning of the year with our 4 children, 7 month old, 1 year old, 5 year old and a 7 year old. I breast fed my 7 month old and it worked out fine. If extra germs pose a threat , the milk of a healthy mother is good at fighting off illness.


You may want to check with the LA Leche league. At their website, they even put you in contact with a nursing mother's support group near your zip code. Within minutes you could be talking to someone on the phone near you, who could help give suggestions that would be specific to your needs. I've known many women who have adopted and nursed their little bundles of joy.

I also want to recommend having a variety of clothing packed for the baby. Both warm and cool outfits will help you be ready for any scenario. Infant sunblock, a hat, extra blankets and your own travel bassinet might be a good idea too!

You have not mentioned how old your child will be when in WDW? If she will be about 3 months or more, that's great. Under 3 months, I would cancel. I had a healthy, large DS, and my pediatrician still recommended keeping him from large crowds, malls (ventilation system recirculating everyone's colds), planes, etc. When an infant is sick, everyone is miserable, and the amount of worry is unfathomable.
