Hi Everyone! :)
I've been participating over in the trip planning/park threads, but came across this forum and think its just about the most inspiring thing I've seen in a long time, and the MOST TIMELY for me: today I started the South Beach Diet Phase 1. What a coincidence that I'd come across this forum! Right place at right time...

So about me:
I am 42 years old
I am 5 foot 2
I currently weigh 160 pounds.
My overall goal weight is 135.
I have done Weight Watchers, which got me from 192 to 150. Then I sort of stalled and try as I might I got bored with WW and tired of counting points. The weight has been creeping up over the past 15 months. I don't want to go back where I was, at 192, but I'm SO TIRED of points right now! I know the WW program works, but I just want to look at something different for a while that will give me some quick results off the bat and then play it by ear after "Phase 1" which is the first 2 weeks.

One big detail is that while on WW, I could have sweets as long as I accounted for them in my points. I am just not good at stopping once I start, so taking a little piece of something was pretty much IMPOSSIBLE for me. On SB for these first 2 weeks there are NO SWEETS allowed. I think this is a better way for me to go at this point, because I am not good at having "just a little".

Today's food:
B: 2 eggs, chopped tomatoes, 2T feta cheese, can of V8
Snack: cheese stick, 15 almonds
L: BIG salad with grilled chicken, chopped cucumber, basalmic vinaigrette, cottage cheese
Snack: can of V8
D: 7oz filet mignon, salad (tomatoes & cucumbers, basil vinaigrette), 5 shrimp (I was mad - we were at a restaurant and I requested STEAMED veggies - the cook simply took them out of the saucepan and steamed them - but they already had oil/butter all over them! GRR! )
Snack: FF sugar free fudgescicle

I also had a ton of water (some flavored with crystal lite packets), and 2 coke zeros (they recommend caffeine free if possible, but I have none).

Most of the next 2 weeks will look like this - low fat protein, no breads or fruits. The purpose, according to the SB Diet book, is to remove the cravings for sweets/sugar. During "Phase 2" fruits will be gradually added back in, and WHOLE grains only (no white bread, white rice, white anything)...Phase 2 seems to be focused on PORTION CONTROL.

I'm planning to update my food diary and weight in this thread - hope that's ok? I thought that was how I understood this forum to work! :)

Happy losing everyone!

Welcome JenniBB!! I just started this week to. You can find me underFailure is not an option, I believe in me! Would love to connect with you and keep each other accountable! Interesting spin on the points thing. I am seriously trying to figure out how to keep myself accountable! Today I proposed to my sister who is also trying to lose that we both put $50 in a pot. Then in so many weeks, the one who loses the most gets the pot for new clothes or a massage. Motivation to exercise is my biggest trouble!
Anyway, good luck and welcome aboard!!

Phase One, Day 2.
Weighed in at 157 today! Technically, that is a 3 pound loss. I'm not going to cheer too loudly about that, because I do occasionally have fluctuations like that (up and down) depending on where I am in my cycle, and what I ate the day before...but if the trend continues another few days, I'll say I am definitely sold. Fingers are crossed!
My menu plan will probably be the same/similar for breakfast, lunch and snacks this first 2 weeks, because my hubby is gone on business, and it just makes it easier. If I get bored there's lots of choices, but for me this will do the trick for the first 2 weeks (Phase 1). The SB Diet has a great cookbook that I can begin using for dinners - and I definitely want to make use of it so the whole family is eating primarily the same foods.

B: 2 eggs, chopped tomatoes, feta V8
Snack: 3 cheese sticks (I was SO hungry and left my almonds at home - better than the rice crispy treats my kids were eating, I guess) :(
L: big salad with chopped cucumber, grilled chicken breast, vinaigrette dressing, grated parmesan cheese
Snack: Rita's Italian Ice (sugar free mango-peach)
D: will be a cheeseburger (romaine lettuce "bun", feta and tomato), celery sticks,
Snack: almonds (30 - which is 2 servings - only supposed to have one serving, but I needed something crunchy...)

Beverages: water, coke zero, water with crystal lite packets

Phase one, DAY 3

Weighed in this morning: 155.4!!!!!

Breakfast: 2 eggs, cottage cheese, feta, chopped tomatoes
**missed my snack - was running errands, doing laundry and cleaning out my closet**
Lunch: ham (no sugar added), cottage cheese, cucumber slices
Snack: almonds
Dinner: I TANKED. DH is out of town and I was frustrated with trying to cook for me and the kids, so I had pizza. I did look at the South Beach dining out guide (for Phase 2- and had Dominos crispy crust with only veggies, and the lowfat cheese. That crust was the first "bread" I've had since Tuesday!! LOL! Sort of afraid to weigh tomorrow. Weigh in isn't required DAILY, so I may skip tomorrow's weigh in - then I can get back on track. I will be scrapbooking tomorrow with friends...thankfully I don't like to have FOOD near my photos and supplies - as long as I'm scrapping I'll be OK! :)

Jenn good luck with south beach-I replied on the other thread to you. If you get pizza in the future simply take off the topping and put them on a huge salad. I have done this a couple of times when we have had pizza over my mom's house. Sooo good and pretty much on plan.

South Beach Phase one day 4

155.4 today as well... which I'm ok with, since I had that pizza yesterday...

Went to a crop with friends. Moved the candy bowl away from myself and drank a lot of water/crystal lite, and a coke zero...nibbled on almonds.
Breakfast: eggs, feta, chopped tomatoes...(not bored yet!)
Lunch at the crop was pulled pork. The BBQ sauce was on the side! :) I had the pork with no bun, and a salad.

Dinner will be? Maybe grilled fish? Not sure - hubby is out of town and I'm only cooking for me- the kids wanted pancakes...
maybe eggs with turkey sausage?

Thanks Tree! <3 Great tip about the pizza! :thumbsup2

PHASE 1 DAY 7
Today I weigh 154.4. I have lost 5.6 pounds in 7 days. Wow.

I have had 2 "cheats" - Friday evening with the thin crust pizza, and then again on Saturday (but now I can't remember what it was! LOL!).
Hopped right back on the no-bread wagon and have continued to work toward NOT WANTING BREAD/SWEETS all the time...
I am out of most of my veggies, so I've had lots of eggs, Boca burgers and chicken. Need to hit the store today.

7 more days to go in phase one. Need to focus on it, and read up on phase 2. Must be careful to not add back in too much fruit/grains too soon...

PHASE 1 Day 12 Weight: 153.7 (loss of 6.3 pounds)

Breakfast: eggs, canadian bacon, ff cheese
snack: almonds
Lunch: Pizza Bowl
snack: sugar free jello
Dinner: taco salad
Snack: ??

Progress really slowed, because of a few sweet temptations I should not have had in my house....but I am still moving in the right direction and am pleased with my loss. My DH came home from 10 days of business travel on Day 9 and wants to start SB also, so today was his Day 1. Since I sort of had a "setback" I decided to continue in PHASE 1 until Saturday, July 31. I'd like to start PHASE 2 at 149 pounds. Then I will be in PHASE 2 until we head to WDW on August 22. I do plan to try and make **Some** good food choices, but I also plan to enjoy the desserts, have a Dole Whip, and a Butterfinger Cupcake....I expect when we return home on Aug 31 to jump back on the wagon (maybe even a couple of days in PHASE 1).

My ultimate goal weight is 135.

Jenn how is it going? I have't seen you post. Are you still doing South beach?

Hi there,

I'm a newbie too and I'm so glad to have found these boards. I complete know what you mean about not being able to stop at "just a little piece" of sweets. I'm doing WW but I find if I let myself do too many "treats" I tend to fall off the wagon completely. I guess that is something I need to work on for the long haul.

Anyway, good luck with the South Beach. I've never tried it but I've head people have good results with it. I look forward to following along with your progress.
