How do I even begin to tell you how wonderful our first experience with staying on the park at Disney???

We are a group of 4 adults, Mom and Dad, Son just graduated from college with girlfriend. We had disembarked Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas at Port Canaveral on Sunday, June 5 after a wonderful 7 day cruise but weren't too sad because we had our Disney experience ahead of us!

Our limo (All in One) was very late arrriving at the port even though I had contacted him as, agreed, with our debarkation time and traffic was very light. After several phone calls, he finally showed up around 9:30 and we were on our way to the Boardwalk Inn. Upon arrival, we checked our mega luggage (lots of cruise clothes) with the porter since we did not know if our room(s) would be ready. The line at the front desk was not bad...only one group ahead of us even though the arrival area outside was a zoo. The girl at the front desk was very pleasant even though she was obviously new and I was relieved when her mentor passed by and took a look at her screen and very softly told her how to handle us. She immediately told us to meet her at the carousell and she and the mentor pretty quickly led us to the fourth floor and into the hands of Steve, at the concierge desk. We were in very capable hands and he greeted us as if he was really glad to see us. He knew that we had booked our room online in a garden suite....that there was a mistake that I caught online at the hotel site that listed the garden suite as a two bedroom, two and one half bath suite and that they had given us a two bedroom suite (4226), which just happened to be available, for our troubles. My son was very surprised and overwhelmed at how nice our accomodations were and we were just a few steps from the lounge! We stepped into this lovely center room that had a armoir/TV, sofa bed and comfy chair...a kitchen with full size coffee pot and microwave. To the right was the master bedroom separated by french doors..king size poster bed, comfy chair...huge bath with separate shower and jetted tub.... double vanity with TV outside the wet area...just beautiful. To the left of the center room was the other bedroom thru double doors like a connecting room. This had two queen size beds, table and chairs, armoir/TV, double vanity, and a nice tub/shower bath. Guess which bedroom our son picked????? Yep, he liked the master suite and Mom and Dad were just as happy with the other bedroom.

Steve sat at the table in the center room with us and went over our packet....out keys to the world were there, along with maps and concierge information...a hotel map and all sorts of other goodies.

We used the lounge a lot. The lounge was very adequate in size although I thought they needed more tables. Lots of comfy sofas and fresh flowers everywhere. The first day, we ate a snack there before heading out to the park. They had lots of soft drinks and bottled water along with pretsels and popcorn. Even though we had the Magic Your Way Dining package, we ate breakfast every morning there. The coffee was to die for with every type of additive you would ever need. Real cream from lovely silver pitchers. A cappuchino, mocha, etc. machine as well. Wondeful fresh pineapple and strawberries, yogurt, cereal, and fresh bakery items from Boardwalk. Anykind of beverage was available...son was able to get a soda even early in the morning by asking one of the concierge people. I had only made one PS prior to our trip...we just wanted to be able to float a little. So, each morning, after deciding with our group what we wanted to do, I would ask the CM to make our ressies and we were able to get pretty much what we wanted. We were able to get dinner tickets for Fantasmik, ressies at Ohana's during WISHES, really no problems if we just stayed a little flexible with our times.

Our room was always very clean when we returned from the parks no matter what time it was. We always had extra towels and at night turn down service with salt water taffy on the bed and a little card with picture and verse about bedtime...different every night. Each of the rooms had balcony access and we enjoyed the views of the fireworks and the gardens/quiet pool...even had bunnies hopping across the paths between all the roses. Each bathroom had a tub shaped container with soaps, shampoos, toothpaste and toothbrushes...just really nice extras that make you feel special.

A really nice touch I thought available to all at the hotel was real handtowels in the public bathrooms...individually rolled. They felt wonderful after dealing with paper towels most of the time.

Can't say enough about the concierge staff...Lorenzo, Steve, Lauren, Ken and all the rest. We were able to buy one day park hopper tickets for my family that visited one day right there along with them being able to eat with us in the lounge. Just really special. Oh, and Micky sent an autographed picture with balloons congratulating our son on his college graduation.! Really cute! :earboy2:

Hope I have given a good view of our experience...we were really impressed and thought the concierge level service was well worth the money. Alas, the mistake on the website has been fixed so don't think we will ever be able to afford another two bedroom suite. We did experience a lot of pixie dust and magic though ....enough for a lifetime!

Thank you for the great review!!! I've been trying to read everything I can about BWI concierge services and experiences. We are staying concierge at BWI in October and I can't wait.

We are torn whether to try BWI or AKL concierge for our nextr trip. I think we are going to split. I have been to BW before and LOVE the atmosphere. It sounds like you had a WONDERFUL long vacation. Thanks for the report

Thanks for sharing your trip. Glad you had a good time. How was the trasportation to the parks from BWI?

Since we are newbies, I don't think our opinion of the transportation options will be much help as we don't have a lot to compare. We used all forms offered in the Disney complex though, several times. We felt the bus service from BWI very convenient but it is a long way to MK so you need to allow 45-1 hours if you have ressies and such. We allowed an hour to Ohana's from BWI (bus to TTC, then monorail to Poly) and would have been right on time except the resort monorail broke down and we had to catch the next one.... walking to the bus stop at the hotel that evening a MK bus was just pulling away so our time would have been shorter had we been a minute earlier. So...you do have to be patient sometimes. The ferry worked well but is very slow going....we learned to get off at the Dolphin/Swan stop if the ferry was not going next to BW...it was an easy walk over the bridge. We walked to MGM but took the ferry back as it was very hot and steamy. I am always interested in the logistics of things so I was glad to just watch how all the transportation stuff worked.

Our stay at BWI was 4 and 1/2 days and we were able to see all the major parks and shows and do some of the things twice...park hopping to three parks the last day. Based on that, I would say that the transportation worked quite well!

So great to hear such a positive report about the Boardwalk. I agree, the theming and resort surroundings are wonderful there. Thanks for writing about the details of concierge and all the little extras you received. I love the grounds as well and I felt like I was there again :flower:

I have one question. What did they offer for dessert in the lounge? Again, thanks for the wonderful trip report.

Lynne

Thanks for your comments. It sounds great and we are really looking forward to our stay there in December.

Pluto, we rarely made it to the lounge during the late day and early evening but the one time we did they had huge chocolate covered strawberries. I was trying to save room for dinner so didn't partake but son's girlfriend and hubby said they were really good.

Late afternoon/early evening fare was empanades, spring rolls, quesadillas all warm, P B and J sandwiches without the crust...cheese, crackers, sodas, wine, beer, and Perrier. I am sure I have left out stuff..there was so much.

The grounds were just fabulous all over Disney as the flower festival had just ended....I really tried to look and smell as we always seemed to be hurrying somewhere. The gardens at the Boardwalk were really nice...we took a stroll over to the Luna Pool our last morning before breakfast....it actually looked smaller that the pictures I had seen. After the pools at Poly and GF, I was a little underwhelmed. I did notice that at ground level some of the building facade around the garden suites was in need of a paint job...saw some mold and mildew on the exterior. I can't imagine what it takes to keep all those properties maintained in Florida!! Interior seemed in really good shape...and that is saying a lot after coming off a almost brand new well maintained cruise ship that was just pristine.

Wanted to add that even though we didn't charge anything extra to our key card, an invoice was delivered to our room the morning of our departure with all our dining plan charges on it. This enabled me to crunch numbers and see that we did very well with our dining plan even though we left 3 counter service meals and three snacks on it. We loved the convenience...had no problems sharing a meal and remember....gratuity is included. No line to add extra $$....guess you could leave cash.

Sorry, I got a little off topic...just really wanted to relay info that I was always curious about before our trip. Deb

I'm so glad you had a wonderful experience at BWI. I fell in love with this place! So the real question is - when are you headed back? LOL! ;)

BWI & AKL are neck and neck when it comes to atmosphere (for different reasons of course) and service. If you are contemplating these two I'd suggest a split stay.

The Boardwalk is one of my favorite places to stay. The concierge servie has always been great and the garden suites are a great romantic escape.
