Newbie with same birthday as EPCOT looking for advice

Hey everyone,
I have never been to Disney World and have always wanted to go. My 30th birthday is October 1st. Which means I was born on the exact same day that EPCOT Center opened! I figure this is the best time for me to finally take the plunge and have a huge celebration.

I am looking for any advice as to where to start with my preparations. I will be traveling with my girlfriend. I plan to drive to Orlando on the 27th or 28th of September and leave on October 2nd. Thanks for any help you all can give me to make this my most memorable birthday ever!

My first step was to buy PassPorter's Disney guide. Ive been there 22 times and I absolutely love this guide book. It's all the initial info you need to get the lay of the land and then come here for all your extra questions. You have to decide on where/how to stay as well. On/off property, dining plan or no, hopper pass option etc. Tick off one thing at a time. But better do it soon as dinner reservations are hard to come by this late in the game. Im currently booking them for end of Oct and running into some troubles. Good Luck!
