Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this - if not, I'm sorry!

I'm new to the concept of renting DVC points and have lots of questions! I am interested in vacationing at the BCV in late April/early May 2007. We are thinking about staying for 6 to 7 nights in either a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom villa and I have no idea where to begin! :confused3

I guess the first question is, how do I find out how many points I need in order to stay in one of these villas. Also, what is the best way to go about renting the points? Should I just post my dates on the rent/trade board?

I'm not sure if this is even a realistic plan - I don't know if May is a time that would have much availability.

Sorry for so many questions! We have vacationed at WDW many times and just our last time stayed at the WLV and loved it! From these boards it looks like it might be beneficial to rent points instead of paying rack rate, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide! :)

To find out how many points you'll need to rent, just look at the top of this page - you'll soon see the link for the DVC point charts. Once you click on that, you just look for the link for the BCV.

Late APril/early May is a relatively easy time to get a DVC reservation. Since you are starting early, you will have a very good chance of getting the dates and unit size you have in mind. (DVC members who own at the BCV cannot make a reservation until 11 months prior to their desired check out date and DVC members who own elsewhere cannot make BCV reservations until 7 months prior to check out).

It's a good idea to get your plans set before the 7 month window opens if you can. Be sure you understand the owner's cancellation/change policy - most consider renting a nonrefundable tranaction. You will be entering into a private transaction with the owner you choose - Disney will not get involved in any disputes.

If you haven't already, hop over to the rent/trade forum and read all of the sticky threads at the top of the page.

Do a search on this board (DVC operations - I moved your post) for renting. You should find lots of posts that will be helpful to you. Hint: JimMIA has some very good ones in many of the threads about renting. :)

Renting can be a very good bargain - especially now that those who stay on points (owners and renters and guests) can buy the dining plan. Seems like the discounts are not as plentiful (or quite as good) as they have been in the past.

Feel free to ask more questions.

Best wishes -

fri/sat are very expensive pointwise (so cash wise to you)...

if you can only do 5 days Sun-thurs (leaving on Fri) - I think you might enjoy renting more.

My opinion....

Watch out though renting can get you addicted, I did and not own BWV points.

Thank you so much for everyone's quick responses! You are all so friendly and helpful.

CarolMN - Thanks for moving my post and pointing me in the right direction! :)

byoung - Thanks for the warning on getting addicted! I'm already addicated to WDW! My husband used to think I was crazy - but after he saw how much fun it is, he's on board too. Hopefully I'll realize that for the number of times we visit (really just once every year-and-a-half), it makes more sense to rent than buy into DVC. We'll see how much will power I have!

Thanks again!

When you're ready to post on the Rent/Trade board, be sure to read the 'sticky' posts there that explain all the posting requirements.

The R/T board is different than the regular DVC boards and has specific rules. Posts on that board first go through a moderation queue and are reviewed before they actually post.

For a 1 bedroom, during the time you specified, you would need between 140-150 points for a 5 night stay. Friday and Saturday are hugely expensive so they would add on like 116-120 just for those two nights. What we do is stay on points for the weeknights and transfer to a value or moderate for the weekends. Way cheaper that way! Anyway, a two bedroom would add on like 50 points for a 5 night ressie. So, you would be looking at about 200. If you are looking at April, it costs on the higher end of my range, but you could book now. But if you are looking at May, it will be cheaper, but you would have to rent in a little while. Jump over to the Rent/trade board. :Pinkbounc
