I am 48 yrs old and went to the Dr. for a foot injury, found out I have high blood pressure and boarderline high colosteral. :scared1:

Doc says I need to lose 60 to 70 pounds to help with the colestrol. He says that nutra system will help teach portion size and that Weight Watchers will help keep it off. I asked what to do so my skin wouldn't sag and he says lose 30 pounds in 6 months and then the rest in another 6 months. Diet alone takes to long and exercise alone just won't work.
My DS18 and DS26 got me a membership at our local Athelitic Club for mothers day.

So all I need to do is decide which diet plan to use. It would be the diet plan I will be on for the next year.(and matinance plan forever)

I thought about getting the 6-week makeover program and would like to know if anyone has tried this and how complicated are the recipes?

Has anyone tried Nutra system? Is it worth it, does it taste ok, do you like it?
I am not into meetings so If I chose W.W. it would be online.

Please HELP me decide.:)

:welcome: to the WISH board! I applaud your decision to make this next year a transition time to a healthier you!!

I would suggest browsing some of the eating plan threads (i don't like the 'd' word :) ) and maybe that will give you an idea of what successful folks on the plan eat. there are also journal thread in the subforum for journals which may help give you an idea too. I have not done nutrasystem, but have done WW both online and on my own. I personally like weight watchers b/c it taught me to enjoy some of my splurge foods in moderation and still be on plan. Also it taught me portion control, heck just start to measure your food for a start on that. it's tedious for a while, but then you get a good feel for what a portion really is.

Congratulations on your new gym membership....what a great motivator!

Welcome to the WISH.

Sounds like you have your goals already lined out, good luck with them.

Welcome to WISH!

I'd suggest writing and keeping track of the calories and food you eat. You will be amazed what a healthy change in your eating will do for your success. You need to keep in mind healthy choices and think of food as fuel. If you can get started on that and avoid the "D" word you will find ways to enjoy success.

Make small goals that you can meet. Your exercising will definitely make a difference and with the healthier eating choices and you'r on your way down!

You can do this!

Welcome to WISH! :goodvibes

Sounds to me like you have an excellent strategy mapped out! :thumbsup2 My only advice is that you make sure to celebrate all the victories...big and small along the way. And also that you don't be too hard on yourself when you slip or have a tough day...because we all have them :).

Best of luck to you!

Another Welcome to WISH! :welcome:

I agree with PP's responses about this being a lifestyle change rather than a diet. (I think you do, too, since you referenced maintenance.) Given that, I'd recommend you consider WW over Nutrasystem. I admit, though, that I've never used either one.

When I lost my 50+ pounds, I used SparkPeople, as it helped me track my food choices in terms of calories (and carbs, proteins, fats, etc.), kept me journalling, taught me about portion control, and encouraged me to exercise. I know many people use SparkPeople in addition to whatever nutritional plan they adopt, and it's a free online site, so maybe you could look at that.

In terms of exercise, I think it's a cornerstone to feeling healthy & energized, regardless of its weight-loss benefits. I started out by walking, and made sure I did a little each day. I didn't join a gym until later, so I think your DS's have really given you a great gift!! Be sure to take advantage of your club's orientations sessions to the equipment; it makes a big difference. You might even find yourself tempted by some classes. (I keep eyeing the dance classes that don't fit my schedule because they sound like so much fun!!!)

Last, I just wanted to say that I'm so very proud of you for taking your doctor's news as an opportunity to do something good for yourself. That's going to be a big help to you! Good luck, and I think you'll find the WISH team has a lot to offer you in your journey.

Thank You for the warm welcome and great tips. I think thw WWcore plan might be for me. I looked up nutrasystems food and I just don't like lots of pasta or food bars.:scared:
I am going to have to learn to deal with food(real food) in proper porportions.
Thanks again,mamo:cutie:
