Hi Everyone! I've been a lurker and I'm new to this "Area" of the DIS.

I'm in the deciding process of purchasing a DSLR. My Head to Head Decisions are between the Sony Alpha A100 and the Canon Rebel XTi

I own a Rebel 35mm with several lenses. Does anyone know if the Rebel Lenses from my 35mm are compitable with the XTi?

Anyone have any pro's cons that they may want to give me insight on these 2 models?

yes your lenses should should work fine, there will be a crop factor to concider... basically multiply the mm number by 1.6 to get the equivalent on the XTi.

Depending on which lenses you have, it might make the decision very simple as you wouldn't have to replace your glass

if your lenses are canon eos ( ef) lenses they are compatible...some third party lenses need to be rechipped to use( sigma does it for $10 per lens and will tell you which need done if you email them)

I have a couple of EOS mount Sigma lenses (both about 10 years old) and they had no issues with the Rebel XT. They focus fine and meter fine and give the proper EXIF data.

I would check out your specific lens (try a google search on the subject) before worrying about it.

I'm pretty sure my 70-200 lens is Sigma what does rechipped mean?

they put a chip in it so the electronics work...one of mine needed re chipped but just go to sigma website and email them. they had a list online for a while but don't anymore. now they will tell you if it does or not. i don't think any other 3rd party manufacturers offer that but some of my other 3rd party lenses worked anyway,. i had an sigma 28-80 that did not work until it was re chipped( and even then stunk but it stunk before as well:lmao: )it's not a big deal to do if it needs done, you send the lens in with a check, they send it back

If you have a set of nice lenses that you're happy with (ie, not ones that you'll quickly be replacing with new lenses), it makes the most sense to stick with that brand.

If not, then you have about five under-$1k DSLR systems to choose from (in alphabetical order, Canon/Nikon/Olympus/Pentax/Sony), each has some advantages and disadvantages but each is capable of producing fantastic results.
