Hello to all my DVC neighbors!

I am a relatively new DVC owner (bought SSR 10/27) and I am preparing to make my first ressie's to GO HOME! I have a few questions - I could probably find the answers if I looked, but it's more fun to post here :)

You can make ressie's 11 months in advance at your home resort. That's 11 months prior to your check out date? So if I want to go Dec 5 - 15, 2004 I can make my reservations on Jan 15? Is that right?

Changing room ressie's. It's funny how owning DVC makes you want to bring your family and friends to WDW! I would like to take my father to WDW on that trip so I am planning a 2 bedroom for 5 days and then a 1 bedroom for five days. I don't think that will be a problem, but what if my dad decides sometime during the year that he can't make it. Will it be easy to switch the 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom? It should be, because a 2 bedroom is a studio and a 1 bedroom together, so basically they open up the studio.

That's all my questions for now! I can't wait to call and make these reservations! My DH can't wait to hear "Welcome Home" when we arrive!

You have the ressie time frame thing right.

As to the 2bedroom to 1 bedroom...Book the 2 bedroom as a lock off and then if you have to go down to a 1 bedroom, you wont have to change the whole ressie. I am not to up on SSR, but if they do have dedicated 2 bedroom units, you would not want one of those. That is why you want to request a lock-off. We did something similar a couple years ago. We booked a lock off 2 bedroom at OKW for the whole trip, and a couple months before, we changed it to a 1 bedroom for the second half. Because we had booked it as a lock off, we didn't have to completely rebook.

Good point about the lock off! I would have assumed that all the 2 bedrooms were a studio and 1 bedroom together, but I guess not. I am splitting my stay between and 1 and 2 bedroom anyway, by requesting a lock off I hope I won't have to move when I downsize to the 1 bedroom.

Thanks!

I am not sure if SSR has dedicated AND lock-off units, so don't use my example until you find out that piece of information for sure.

Just to clarify, you are staying for 10 nights, the nights of the 5th through 14th, inclusive, and checking-out on the 15th, then you can make your 11-month reservation on Jan 15th, 2004.

As to changing reservations later, remember that any change essentially involves a cancellation and a new reservation. So you can only get the 1-B/R if one is available.

The first two weeks in December are popular. If the resort becomes fully booked and people start getting on a wait-list for a 1-B/R unit, and your unit was a lock-off, I don't think you automatically get to keep the 1-B/R side when you cancel the reservation. It would go to the first person on the wait-list.

You might want to verify this with MS as to how this actually would work. If it's not treated as a cancellation/new reservation then you're OK. But if it is considered a cancellation and new reservation, then technically the wait-list would kick in ahead of you for that new reservation for a 1-B/R

Any change to a reservation is always subject to availability.

You should be aware of this.

Interesting, Caskbill, because they let me do this last year only because I had a lock off. I wonder if this differs by resort.
