I am just starting to think about purchasing into this. I ran the how many points it would be to spend a night at a resort and it came up to 31 a night. Is that per person or per family/room? If I have 5 peopel and the room is a two bedroom am I only charged 31 points? Or is it 31 points times the amount of people?

I am not an expert so if I am wrong I am certain someone will correct this. Unlike many hotels the charge per night does not depend on how many people are in the room. There is a limit on how many people can be in a room depending on the size of the room.

The amount of points is for the room, not per person.

One of the factors we considered before buying was that we would be charged for extra adults in our All-Star room once our kids turned 18. That adds up quickly.

Now we have a much larger room and they can bring a friend. The kids are in their twenty's and still love WDW.

When booking a room can you make special requests & will they be honored (such as location & hadicap accessiblity for a child)?

Handicap accessibility can be reserved - DVC will go thru Disney Special Services and reserve a HCA villa for you based on availability. Location is simply a request unless you are reserving one of the few "guaranteed" locations like "near Hospitality House" at OKW or "Boardwalk view" at BWV.

You would reserve the HCA villa when the reservation is made and could also make any location requests at that time also. Requests are not guaranteed, but HCA can be specifically reserved.

Thank you for your responses. So basically, if i book a night for 30 points, and the room holds upto 5 people, I can bring upto 5 people. this sounds better and better.

yes.

keep in mind, though, that in most cases with DVC, some of the 5 will be sleeping on a sofabed. also, DVC typically does not provide cots or rollaway beds, so if you need an extra inflatable mattress or something, you would need to bring it yourself...

just FYI.

Points charts for DVC (including ones you will find by going to top of this page and clicking on "DVC Point Charts") are shown for the cost of the room per night (and then they also provide a weekly total) and it is the same amount regardless of number in the room. If you are seeing "30" points somewhere that is for the night in the room all guests combined. For example, the point charts show that in January, for Sun through Thursday night, in a 2BR at BCV, VWL, BWV preferred, or AKV savanna, the points needed for a night are 30 and that means you can fill that room for that night with any number from one to as many as the room sleeps (8 in a 2BR except AKV sleeps 9) and the total cost is 30 points.
