Actually, we've had DVC for 2 years now, but we've only booked at our home resort. Next year we really want to stay somewhere else on WDW property. We'll need a 2-bedroom b/c the in-laws will be coming with us. What resort do you recommend & why?

How do I go about making reservations for a different resort? Do I call at 9 months out from our first day of vacation? Is there any reason that I would need to go ahead & book our home resort at 11 months out and then cancel it later? We'll be going at the end of May, so it shouldn't be a super busy time. Thank you!

I have only stayed at SSR so far so I cant give strong recommendations as to other locations (we are going to VWL over Christmas!). You can now call 8 months, not 9, out from the first day of your trip (up to 7 days). What you mentioned, booking home at 11 months and then canceling at 8 months to book at another location is a good idea and seems to be very common. That way you at least have a room!

Book home @11 mos. then call @ 7 mos. to change. We have been doing that for years W/O problems

Yes, book a 2BR at your home resort @ 11 months out from your check-in date. I presume that you don't need a dedicated 2BR (2 queen beds in the 2nd BR), right?

At 7 months out from your check-in date, call back and see which resorts still have 2BRs available. Probably won't be all, but hopefully you should have a choice of a few. All depends on what time of year you're traveling.

If you have the option of multiple resorts, it really depends on what you want from your vacation. Want to use fewer points and park in front of your building? Stay at OKW or SSR. Want easy access to parks? Stay at VWL for MK and either BCV or BWV for Epcot/DHS. Want to stay in an awesome resort surrounded by animals? Stay at AKV.
