Our use year starts in June of each year. My question is this......on June 2012 do my 2012 points start or do my 2013 points start. I'm confused since June is half way through the calendar year. I need to know what points we are using currently. Dumb question, but I'm asking.
Not a dumb question at all. Each set of points have "use by" dates associated with them. For example,
your June 2011 points are valid for stays from 6/1/2011 - 5/31/2012
your June 2012 points are valid for stays from 6/1/2012 - 5/31/2013
your June 2013 points are valid for stays from 6/1/2013 - 5/31/2014
and so on through the end of your contract
Your dates of stay determine which points can be used for that stay. You can move points from one UY to the next by banking them. If you banked any of your June 2011 UY points before your banking deadline of Jan 31, those banked points could be used for stays from 6/1/2012 - 5/31/2013.
If you need additional points for a stay, you can borrow from the next UY. For example, points in your June 2013 UY could be borrowed into your June 2012 UY and used for stays from 6/1/2012 - 5/31/2013.
That's why you see multiple Use Years displayed in the online booking application. Depending on your travel dates and the number of points you need, you might need to use points from multiple Use Years. Banking and borrowing are final transactions so be sure that's what you really want to/need to do before proceeding. I haven't booked online yet but based on what I've read here, you have to borrow points explicitly, it doesn't just allocate them automatically. I suspect you were booking a stay with a check-in date between 6/1/2012 and 5/31/2013 so the system used 2012 points because they are "current" points (not borrowed points) for that stay.
