My DD wants to meet the princesses and Mickey while at the world. We will be arriving Jan 2nd and we would like to have a reservation at the Royal Table on the 3rd and one at Tusker later in the week. I've never done a character breakfast so I'm not sure what im getting into.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions to give this newb so my DD could have her dream come true?

Also do you have to have resort reservations before booking adr's?

You do not have to have a vacation booked to make dining reservations.

And yes the character meals book quickly, so if you are interested you should research which ones you want and book it.
Now I know the princess meal at CRT does require a credit card, so they charge you right up front. Not sure how it all works with this one, so look around or call and speak with a CM. Because if you book it and don't cancel within the policy (if you have to) then they charge you anyway.
But I do know you can convert it to the dining plan credits (it takes 2) if you go that route.

Tusker house you can book no issue right now for when you want and if you don't go just cancel when you can.

Good luck and have fun!

thank you for the info. Can I book Tusker now, or do I have to wait till the 180 day mark? I'm a bit confused.

If you do not have a WDW resort reservation yet, you can book at the 180 day mark of the day you want to get the reservation. 180 days from Jan 3 is 7/7/11.

If you have a WDW resort reservation, you can book at 180 day mark of your arrival date, and then make up to 10 days of reservations (that's what 180+10 means). So if you make a reservation with arrival date of Jan 2, you can make up to 10 days of reservations on 7/6.

THIS is the 180-day calculator that I use.

As soon as you are 180 days out, call first thing in the morning for your Royal Table reservations and hopefully you'll get lucky. This is the only character meal that I have had problems with.
