newbie question... Disney Dollars

Hello, can someone explain to be what Disney Dollars are? I have never used them before. I would have searched for it because I am guess it has been explained before, but the search function is disabled.

Disney Dollars are just that - they are "disney" money that $1 = $1 of "real" money. They can be used at the resorts and almost everywhere on property. I can't think of every going anywhere they wouldn't accept them...but I would be afraid to say everywhere without being 100% positive. I love them because I can buy them to prepare for my trip and then I can't spend them. It's easier because the money isn't available to spend on other items. However if you have something come up that you can't go on your trip as long as you have your receipt you can change them out for "real" money again. You can buy them at your local Disney Store.

what are the advantages of them then?

I understand that you won't spend the money on other stuff, but are there any other advantage?

We give them as gifts to nieces and nephews and other little ones who are going (as long as we know there is a planned trip). THe children love them. They have their own "money" and it is Disney money to boot. We tell them it is for their very own souvenier, anything they want, that they can afford. Takes the pressure off the parents too.

There really are no "advantages" per se. To me the advantage is that I can feel like I have my trip 100% paid for down to spending money. I always get $10's and then use them for items even as small as a bottle of pop. You get "real" money as change. And like I said - you can only spend them at the Disney Store or Disney World so you aren't tempted to dip into your vacation savings. I still take plastic for emergencies and a fairly small amount of cash....but I LOVE Disney Dollars....possibly just because they are Disney.
