Newbie question about...

...park passes! Ok, I know from my reading that I will be given a key to the world pass either when I check in or before we leave home (no clue at this time how that works). Then when we enter a park the pass is scanned and there's some finger scan machine. Now what happens after that? Do we have to show the passes at every ride? Do they need to be visible or do most of you just stash them away in a wallet? What is the best way to carry/protect these passes so they don't get misplaced or dropped? And am I right in assuming this pass is also our room key and where our dining plan info is stored, as well as charging abilities? This is one important card! *obssessing now*

You are right!! The card is very important. We usually stored them away in a safe place after entering the park. Have them ready though if you want to charge food to them while in the park, or you want to buy items. You do not have to show them at the rides though. Enjoy yourself and have a great time!

Your room KEY has all of your info on it tickets, ddp, and room access hence the reason they are called Key's to the Kingdom.

Just keep it in your wallet or something safe like that. You want t obe able to get it easliy, yet not lose it!!

I have a neck pouch thing I got from Passporter. I use it to store my Fast Passes, my Key to the World and a few dollars that I take to the parks in case I use a vendor that I can't charge at.

Your key to the world card...
First off you will not recieve this card until you check in to your Disney resort. This is your room key & your park passes. If you are on the DDP it will also be included on this same card. You can also put up a cash deposit or credit card and use your key to the world key to make charges to your account. You should protect this just as you would any credit card.
When you go to the parks you will place your card into the slot, then it will prompt you to place your finger on the scan system, and then the turnstile will allow you in and give you back your card. You will not need your card again unless you wish to get a fastpass, make a charge on it (if you have accessed this) or if you are using the DDP. If you leave the park and are going to another park you will simple need to repeat the same thing at the next park enterance.

You answered all my questions beautifully, thank you so much. I'm liking the neck pouch idea too, keeping the passes safe in something I can't absentmindedly put down and walk away from Not that I'm prone to doing such things... nope, uh uh....

I bought neck pouches at Wal-Mart for about 1.00 a piece. They worked great. We kept our key to the world and a photo ID in them. They were easy to get out for fast passes didnt have to carry wallets or purses.

They also have your name on them so they make a nice keepsake/scrapbooking item when you go home.
