My family and I are interested in going to WDW in the summer of 2007. We would like some info. on how long in advance you can make reservations for a DVC - we will renting points. Also, any tips, etc. would be hekpful.

Thanks!!

Jake

First you need to decide which DVC resort you are interested in staying. We have booking windows for our home resorts. The home resort booking window is 11 months. You would need to find someone that has points available for the resort you want. If you buy points from someone and want to stay somewhere other than their home resort the booking window is 7 months out. So the best advice would be to find someone who has points for sale at the resort you want to stay at. If you check out the rent/sell thread you can see who has points available.

Members may make reservations at their home resort 11 months prior to check out. They may make reservations at any other DVC resort 7 months prior to check out. Since you are going in the summer, you can probably safely wait until 6 or 7 months to get a reservation - unless:

* you are going over the 4th of July or
* want to stay at the BCV (for access to SAB) or
* want to stay at the BWV in a standard view room or
* want to stay at the BWV in a guaranteed Boardwalk view room or
* want a Grand Villa (at any resort that has them).

For those, you are going to need the 11 month window and only someone who owns the resort you want will be able to help you. If you need the 11 month window, be prepared to pay a little more per point to secure the "harder to get" reservation.

If you haven't already, read all of the sticky threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Forum.

Be sure you understand the owner's cancellation/change policy. They will vary between owners. Most owners consider renting to be a non-refundable transaction, but will allow you to reschedule. The ability to reschedule will be restricted by the status of the points the owner uses to make the reservation.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have here.

Best wishes -

Good luck on renting, but watch out renting can get you hooked I did and now own.
