Newbie MGM Swap Signups - CLOSED!!

Welcome the first official Newbie swap of the year! This is open to everyone, but especially those looking to get their feet wet with swapping. Because of that we’re going to keep it simple. The element selection is a little simpler than in some of the other swaps.

We will have 8 person groups. I’ll start with one and open more as needed.

Please choose one element from the list below. (If you’re unfamiliar with any elements, see the Swap Glossary sticky at the top of this board. ) Choose a theme for your items – a ride, show, restaurant or other MGM theme (general MGM is okay too.) You will then make 8 sets of your element. It is okay if people within a group choose the same element as long as their topics are different. But let’s try not to have too much overlap of topics – no more than 2 of the same topic per group so we get a good mix of elements.

Once signups are closed I will open a progress thread for people to check in. I will then send out my address and email, and ask you to also PM me with your name, home address and email address.

PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

The Due date for this swap is March 22. Please mail all packages by March 15. I will mail packages back as soon as I have all sets. I will be asking everyone to check in 2 weeks prior to the due date. If I have not heard from you at that point I will ask for an angel to fill in for you.

Please mail using the priority mail envelopes. For packaging, make individual packets of your swap items using Ziploc bags or plastic wrap for each person--you will have 8 sets for each group you are in. In or on the bags please include your name, DIS name and group number. Place the individual baggies/plastic wrapped items inside another larger Ziploc and label this as well. Include $4.05 in cash or a $4.05 stamp for return postage. Please don’t send metered or click-it/ship-it postage – some hostesses have had issues with these.

Element Selection:
Please, no hand lettering on any items, use computer fonts, rub-ons, stamps, etc.
Ideas for embellishing include using brads, eyelets, charms, ribbon, 3D stickers, matted stickers or clipart, and embossing or any other ideas you may have – be creative!

1 Topper - 8 inches wide, double matted and embellished
1 Border – 12 inches long, may be horizontal or vertical, double matted and embellished
2 Photo Mats – large enough for a 4 x 6 photo, embellished
1 Journaling box - double matted and embellished, at least a 3 x 4 writing area
1 Large Tag - double matted and embellished, include either fibers/ribbons or eyelet in the hole, no smaller than 2 x 4, larger if you wish
2 Small Tags – any size, double matted and embellished
Library Pocket with Tag – both embellished
4 Decorated Squares - double matted and embellished
2 slide mounts - embellished
1 mini file folder - embellished
1 Shaker Box
1 Paper Piecing
1 Matted Song Lyric/Poem or Quote: Song Lyric/Poem/Quote area must be no smaller than 3 x 3, double matted and embellished

I'm totally 100% new to swapping. I'd like to do journaling boxes. not sure of a theme, I need to take stock of my stuff, which is at my boyfriends. can I get back to you on a theme?

Since the first group is over half full I opened up a second group just in case. I'm planning on leaving the signups open for a few days since not everyone DIS's daily like some of us.

i'll do a paper piecing the sorcer's hat. you know the big one in mgm, i can do for both groups. I'm sorta getting the hang of swapping and want to try my hand at paper piecing.

Well, since my upcoming trip has changed from Disneyland to MGM, I'm in! Put me down for large tag Tower of Terror and if you need someone for another group, I can do 2 smaller tags Tower of Terror (can you tell this is my FAVORITE ride!?!).
