I just got OKW March UY through ROFR. Now, I'm buying OKW direct for 100 pts for the blue card. March UY. Will the direct be the same membership ID? The situation continues.... I have another resale for OKW March UY. I am hoping to pass ROFR and combine all three into one membership. BUT: the plot thickens. I also have an AKV in ROFR for OCTOBER UY. It was really a good price. I'm new! Put darn bids on 3! Got sucked in really quick. MY question: will I be able to transfer any unused OKW points into AKV to extend their life? Any comments welcome.

You cannot extend life by transferring because the transferred points retain their UY and resort. So your OKW March points will remain OKW March UY when you transfer to your AKV Oct UY. If the three OKW contracts with the same UY are titled the same, they will have the same membership number. If you changed the ownership on either one, it will be a different membership. You need to make sure that your guide knows about your first resale and that the company you are buying the second OKW resale from knows you already have a membership number.

Also, you cannot borrow transferred points and you cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. Plus you have to call MS to make or modify the reservation if you use transferred points.

When it comes to using points for member specific events, like the member cruise, only your direct points will count. None of your resale points will be able to be used. If you book a stay on the resale points and a member event occurs during that stay, you might not be eligible for the event.

Just want to say I was booked on points from a contract with a white card and was able to attend Moonlight Magic because I have a blue card.

Now, that is not to say things will always be that way, but have in the past.

OP, I have 2 UYs...had 3 but sold...and I just use them on their own. If I book a stay and want to use points from both, then I simply book whole nights on each and have MS link so I don’t hsve to change rooms,

I have done the transfer only a few times, just this past year and I have to say it’s a pain having to call to not only book, but modify. I won’t be doing it again unless I have to.

Thank you for your explanation. So a blue card is only good when staying on "blue points." I surely was incorrect. I thought if I was a dvc member, I could just walk into a dvc event using my annual pass even if I was not staying at the resort. This explanation means the points own the blue card, not me. That's not exactly what I was aiming for.

That sounds more doable than what I was thinking. The linking instead of the transferring of the two reservations, especially if one is using direct and one is using resale. Thank you.

Honestly... The blue card is basically associated to the qualified points, so saying they own the card is fairly accurate.

“If you book a stay on the resale points and a member event occurs during that stay, you might not be eligible for the event.” If this statement is true it really changes my calculation and will to add direct points. Plus, what happens if you book a stay at 7 months using both direct and resale?

I don’t think Moonlight Magic is really worth direct pricing to me and not a perk I would go out of my way to attend, in any case they are currently unavailable
I just don’t worry about being eligible for everything, the perks just currently don’t add up.

Yes, clearly alone MM events are hardly worth direct pricing but special events, access to Epcot/BLT lounge, discounts, etc. all play into the calculation. (Not so worried about the events and lounges currently not being available since DVC is a long term purchase and we will hopefully have a handle on Covid sometime in 2021) Altogether the perks are still a tough sell to justify direct pricing and if you start removing them or qualifying that you have to stay on direct points to use the perks then it’s even less enticing IMO.

As I stated, I have both blue and white card memberships...two UYs, and was able to go to MM, buy my Gold AP, etc., no matter what points I used for a trip.

Having the blue card has all I have ever needed to have access to things,

Yes, this is a personal decision, btw the BLT lounge is open to all members....when it’s open

I agree that Moonlight Magic is not worth the direct membership at all. They are fun events, but nothing to write home about. Plus, there is no guarantee you will get in, which is a huge bummer. On top of it, you usually end up scheduling your vacation to land on one of the dates which is a hassle. DVC also does not seem committed to the events, for example they cancelled them for the next year.

The thing about resale points for MM is that MM booking is all online. So the system is typical Disney IT and may not recognize that you own qualified points, because the booking was made with unqualified points. MS phone may not be able to help you that day.

DVC may also make it so that only bookings on qualified points get access, or restrict those with blue cards and no booking on qualified points to a later or limited enrollment for the event. Absolutely an option, as MM is not just goodness of their hearts, but encourages points use on weeknights and off seasons.

And that is IF MM comes back in 2022 or 2023.

I think this year was the first time that MM were scheduled closer to 11 months out than three months out. Most of the time, we already had a vacation scheduled when these were announced and we were not going when they were scheduled. This year I changed a reservation to fit the MM time and then Covid hit. I agree these may never happen again.

2020 dates were announced near the end of October. The year before was about a month later.

We love MM and have even driven down from Canada just for a MM event. This year we scheduled a trip in April after seeing which characters were out for the first MK event however that obviously didn't happen. If you're not into rare character meets then really you can get most everything else via a regular after hours event.

THank you for your explanation.
