Newbie Help - Yacht & Beach in August

Just curious, which resort did you book, Yacht or Beach? And what view category did you book? Both of those will influence the answer on room requests/preferences.

I book through Virgin and we are in a standard room at the Yacht club.

Which us the better hotel yacht or beach ??

You'll hear all sorts of opinions and there's not a right answer. I personally give the slight nod to YC for a few reasons...

- The rooms are newer and in more of a modern Disney resort room style. Meaning, hard flooring, a refreshed look, lots of outlets, newer/more modern bathrooms. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the BC rooms at all, I just happen to like the feel of the YC rooms better.

- Nearly all YC rooms have balconies, which isn't the case at BC (BC has a mix of balcony types, including many rooms with just a Juliet style balcony) - we have two kids and sometimes balcony time (even if we don't have a view of anything) is nice for us adults just to have a place to chill for a bit. For us this is relatively material.

- Somewhat material as my kids have gotten older - BC rooms don't have a door to the bathroom/vanity area (there is a door to the toilet/shower area). YC rooms have the door to the toilet/shower area plus a sliding door from the room to the vanity area. Some have strong opinions about this, some don't. In our family we're sometimes on different schedules (eg, getting up early for a workout), so being able to close the door/minimize light/noise as you get ready while others are sleeping has some benefit.

- I find YC to have a more relaxing vibe than BC. To me the BC lobby is always pretty busy, especially with Cape May being right there. Some Disney resort balconies are places you want to stop, have a seat, relax for a second - with BC I just want to get out of there. :-)

- I've been told I'm way out in left field with this comment, but I don't really love the fishy smell that sometimes comes from Cape May that pervades the lobby. DW says I'm crazy and I have a sensitive nose - maybe she's right, I don't know. I just know I don't love it.

- YC feels a bit more 'adult' than BC, but of course it's very family friend just like every Disney resort.

- We prefer the Market at Ale & Compass to the Beach Club Marketplace for quick service good. Ale & Compass To Go is also a great option. Ale & Compass and Yachtsman are both pretty good dining options themselves, IMO. Not that you can't easily walk to these places from BC as well, but it's nice having everything right there when you're at YC.

- We spend more time on the YC side of Stormalong Bay, so prefer the access from that side of the resort.

It sounds like I'm being pretty critical of BC but everything I said above is more on the splitting hairs level of things than major drivers (except maybe the balcony part) - but they are why we generally will pick YC over BC. But I'd easily stay at both/be happy at both (our last YC/BC trip was at BC last summer), so it just comes down to personal preferences/opinions.

Hope that helps!

Wow what a brilliant and in-depth reply, its always nice when people spend the time to give a reply. Thank you! Food wise is the tough one as we have no DDP, but could work in our favour, kids are picky but I have always wanted to stay at either YC or BC. Ever since I saw a boat leaving when I was stood on the Epcot bridge. My big worry is the heat and navigating it.....

Another thing about the heat - people are using umbrellas on sunny days now for some relief from the sun. I don't have details, but people have been posting about it on the Theme Park forum.

YC has an older/richer/more boring vibe but has been recently renovated. BC is more casual. There is a lake by the resort that seems to keep the area a little cooler. Usually an afternoon shower in August also helps.
