Hello I am new to this DVC board and had a quick question. We are looking to rent point, we are a family of 5. Myself, DH, DS(4), DD(2 1/2), and new addition on the way.

Here is my question: Are we able to stay in a studio, or do we need a 1 bedroom?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Look to plan a trip for Nov 04.

It looks like you'll be OK. The "rules" say studios accommodate four plus one in a crib, and it looks like that's what you'll have. Congratulations on the new little one.

Pat

230 days and counting . . . again!

Welcome to the DIS and welcome to becoming a family of FIVE!!!

My kids at DD4, DD3, and DS10months.

Although you may fit in a studio, you will want a one bedroom... trust me. This is a vacation.... treat it as such! :-)

The extra room proves invalueble with an infant, kids of napping age, etc.

The occupancy rules for a studio and one bedroom are the same:
4 plus a crib occupant under age 2. That being said, in all but OKW, you will be quite cramped in a studio, because they do not necessarily have 2 beds. Only OKW has 2 queen beds in all studios. By the time you try to put a pack-N-Play and the pull out full size bed in there, you wont have much room in a BWV, BCV, VWL, or SSR studio.

I agree with the other replies. You will be cramped in a studio. Keep in mind that the living room will become a second bedroom using the sleeper sofa. The bedroom has a king-size bed in it, not two queen bed.

The OKW rooms are larger than any of the other vacation club resorts. But if you are more interested in location than size, you may want to consider BW or BC - both are next to Epcot - and have more food choices available on the Boardwalk.

Have a great time.

You need a two bedroom. The studio is too small. The one bedroom only has one king bed, unless you are planning on having the kids sleep in the living room.

I would strongly urge you to change your baseball affiliation.

Er, let me try that again....

I would strongly urge you to rent enough points to stay in a one bedroom villa. Yes, it is going to cost you a little more, but you will save yourself a lot of headaches and provide a heck of a lot more space for yourself & your young family.

Once your baby arrives & the kids are a little bigger, you will definately need a two-bedroom in future years! ::yes::

Have a great time on your trip and Go White Sox. :jumping2:

As you can see, we DVC members tend to be just a little bit spoiled when it comes to vacation accommodations--and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Having rented points myself before becoming a member, here are a couple of items to factor into your decision if you are considering a 1B / 2B:

- You get a FULL SIZED KITCHEN in a 1B or 2B. Think of all of the money you can save enjoying a few meals in your room. We stayed for 6 days with 4 adults and 1 toddler. Upon arrival we spent $100 on groceries at Publix. That paid for every breakfast, every snack, every beverage (bottled water, soda, some alcohol) and just about every lunch during that trip. We EASILY saved $250+ over the prices we would have paid eating breakfast at WDW prices, paying $2.50 per bottle for water and soda, etc.

- You get a full sized washer and dryer in your room. Again, speaking from experience, we had rain the first 4 days of one stay. We were out of dry clothes by the evening of day 2.

OK, those are the practical advantages. The fun ones include:

- King sized bed in the master bedroom.

- Whirlpool tub in the master bath.

- DVD player in the living room.

- Just the advantage of having separate living and sleeping quarters. I'm assuming several of your children will take a nap during the day. I'm sure you can appreciate the difference between staying quite enough for them to sleep in the same studio room as the rest of the family vs. closing them away in the master bedroom while the rest of your group relaxes in the living room.

If you can afford it, splurge on at least a 1B. You won't regret it.

Doug Wolfe has it about right.

You will want to rent a 1-br. We did a studio with DSs 6 and 4--it was a little tight.

Doug did make one mistake though--I believe he meant
go RED sox!!!:teeth: :hyper: ::yes::

Congrats on the newest one!!!!

Judging by the excellent baseball taste of this poster --- they will probably be most happy in a one-bedroom. ;) Congrats on the new "lil" Yankee on the way!

DH & I were in the same situation. I had booked a studio @ SSR, since it's our home resort, but after much thought we switched to a 1bed @ BW.

I couldn't imagine squeezing a crib in a studio and have room for us all, let alone get some sleep. The idea of packing less and having the ability to eat breakfast, snacks and other meals in was a big +. The in room washer/dryer sounds like a savior. On out last trip DS #1 was 2 1/2 and he ran in every little bit of jumping & shooting water he could find, and at Disney parks that's alot. That made for some of our best memories, too!!

I wanted to save the points too, but think the sleeping will be easier with the extra room - especially at naptime.

Also, think of the time you'll save riding on the bus if you stay at BC or BW closer to Epcot & MGM. DH and I are looking forward to the convenience of the BW location.

Whatever you decide - you'll have a blast!

:bounce:

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. It has helped us out alot. We are looking to go to WDW in Nov 04. Most likely we will try rent points for OKW. This trip is will be to expore the DVC's for a possibility for purchasing one. My father has bought one outside of Disney for all the children/grandchildren and we have stay there, but we prefer to be on property. We will also be researching the FL areas since we are considering relocating to FL in the next few years.

Doug Wolfe......I am sorry you don't understand us New York Fans.

Doc and Family...... You have my deepest sympathy.

PamOKW..... Finally someone who can appreciate a good baseball team.

Thank you again for all your suggestions.

I wasn't thinking clearly yesterday. Another very big bonus for the one-bedroom is having a washer/dryer in the unit! With three kids under 3 (including the newborn), I would think this would be a big help.

Again reiterating the choice to go with a 1 bedroom is a good one.

Now for that baseball fan thing.....Avoid the controversy between Yankee or Red Sox and support a middle of the road midwester team!:jester: GO TWINS!:p

I second the whole washer dryer option! Very very handy that alone is worth the extra points!
