Hi, I am planning my first family trip to WDW this April. I purchased the DDP for myself and my 2 10 year olds. They are considered adults but when I am reviewing the menu, my 1 boy probably won't like the adult meals. He is a chicken nugget kinda kid.

Am I allowed to order an adult meal to use the credit (to take to the hotel) and a childs meal for him to eat? I would hate to cash in a sit down credit for chicken nuggets.

Please let me know if anyone knows if this is acceptible or if I have to use the Adult credit for the kids meal.

Thanks very much for all of your help :)

We have done the dining plan twice. The second time our oldest was 10. Hand we not had free dining I would have been very disappointed. He did not eat nearly enough to be on the adult plan. I personally would not go back on the dining plan with kids close to the 10-12 range. My kids just don't eat that much and prefer kids type foods.

You can buy meals out of pocket. I don't know about to go orders. I just wanted to mention the above. I know it is not what you asked. Have a great trip.

I appreciate you help :)

I wonder if they would let us do a doggie bag? Do the restaurants let you?
Hmmm... I am concerned and am thinking I need to pack PB&J.

I would think they might allow you to do that at the non-buffet places (you cannot takeout anything at buffets) but I'm not sure as the restaurants are not set up for takeout. We have gotten our desserts to go sometimes but never tried an entire meal. What you might consider doing is saving your son's to use for you, perhaps an extra meal at another time or perhaps going to a 2TS place. If you pay OOP for two of his meals, now you have 2 extra credits you could use for another TS for your other 10yr old.

The dining plan is a cookie cutter plan set up to work for most visitors but it certainly is not for everyone.

You can order of the child's menu for your 10 year old and the dining plan will cover it. I have asked this question of CM's when making reservations. Of course, CM's do make mistakes. The big problem is going the other way. If you pay for a child's dining plan, they have to order off the children't menu. I agree with you, though - paying for adult table service, and then ordering chicken nuggets is kind of a kick in the pants! Every restaurant that we have been to (certainly not an exhaustive list) has a steak or roast chicken dish that is not too fancy and many kids would enjoy. We have actually never gotten the dining plan for the opposite reason - my two are much more likely to split an adult meal than order a kids meal.

Duh... I never thought about using it for me, say for lunch or another meal...
That is great information. Thanks sooo much for helping me figure this out.

You guys are great!:worship:
