Newbie cancellation questions

Of course I don’t plan on ever having to cancel a reservation however I want to make sure I understand the policies correctly.

I have a December use year. Let’s say I have a reservation for December 2023 using my 2023 use year points and borrowing some from 2024 use year (yea I already need more points!). If I had to cancel this reservation 31 days before arrival then all of those points go back into my 2023 use year and I have until November 2024 to use them (since I have a December use year)?

However, if I cancel 30 or less days prior to arrival all of those points go into a holding account.

Am I understanding all of this correctly or way off? Please explain if I’m misunderstanding!

Almost. Any cancel 31 days or more from check in return the points to the UY of the trip.

Since you borrowed your 2024 points, those must be used by November 30th, 2024. Your 2023 points could still be banked as the banking deadline for those is not until July 31st 2024..

If you cancel with less time, then all points are in holding status. They all expire end of November 2024, and have the added restrictions of only being eligible to be used in a trip 60 days or less from check in.
