Next year - 2004 - we'll be bringing one of our nephews to WDW -for 7 nights - it will be his first trip - but the glitch is he can only go during one of the school breaks - Presidents Week (which I think will be too cool weather wise) - Easter Week arriving on April 9 or the first week school is out for summer which will be around June 14th.

Which week do you think would be best - I know Easter week requires more points but the weather won't be as hot as in June.

Which week would have the least crowds

We have a March use year and not sure when I would need to book.

First trip home in less than 30 days - yippee

Your Use Year has nothing to do with when you can book. You can book your home resort starting 11 months from the date of your check-out and other resorts at 7 months from date of check-out.

The one consideration about your Use Year would be if you have to cancel the trip on short notice. Your points have to be used by the end of February and your banking deadlines have to be considered as well. Only the January trip would need to keep this in mind.

Winter/Spring weather is just unpredictable. Yes, it could be cold in January but it could be cold in March, too. They recently had some beatiful summer days in Orlando and then they had some cold rainy ones. Chances are that if it is cold in March, it will turn around quicker than in January. Since Easter is early April next year, chances are good for nice weather.

I think I would go for the April trip first and the January trip would be second choice. It's just so much nicer when it's not hot and humid.

What about Easter week compared to - say - week beginning June 14th?

I'm kind of leaning between those two

Thanks

I know this goes against what alot of people think, depending what grade he is in, take him out of school. Especially if this is his first trip, what a thrill it would be to not have to deal with lines at all. My daughter is in 5th and so far, none of her teachers have had issues with taking her out school. We plan ahead, and advise the teacher ahead of time. Some have provided work, while other have not. his year we are taking her out for 2 weeks, spoke with the teacher several times, and she feels it won't cause her any problems, but it also depends on the student. the kids are kids for such a short time, family time is very important, and unfortunately my hubby can't vacation during school breaks, so this has worked so far.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!!

I have no problem taking my son out of school but my b-i-l does for anything longer than 2 days of missed school. Besides my nephew will be in middle school next year so that is why we are limited to non school times. I've tried schmoozing and pixie dusting and it still didn't work - lol.

But I'm determined to be able to see that wonderous smile on my nephews face when he experiences WDW for the first time.

So.... that is why I've got to choose between Easter Break and the first week after school is out in June.

My choice would be to go in June. Easter week is so crowded. Unless you enjoy long lines. It will be hotter in June, but that just make swimming more enjoyable. Your nephew will have a blast no matter when you go. Have a great trip.

I would also vote for June. It's terribly crowded Easter week and the hours are shorter. It's actually not as crowded around June 14th as it will be a week later. There are actually schools up North that don't get out until the 3rd week of June, so at least you'll miss them!! The hours are also longer.

We have the same problem with our DD in 4th grade. We don't like her missing school because it takes so long to make it up. We have planned 2 DVC vacations in 2004 using the inservice days. In January they are off for teachers convention for a wed,Thurs, Friday & Monday. We are going the previous Saturday through Sunday and she will only miss 2 days instead of 5. In October they have inservice and she will only miss 3 days instead of 5.

These options work well and you can still go during downtimes at the parks

Good luck with your decision

Judy
