Has anyone else noticed that there is always a big price difference between Newark and the two New York airports to Orlando? Continental is almost always twice the price of similar flights on Song, Spirit, or Jet Blue. The price for Song leaving LGA and Newark AT THE SAME TIME is also much less from LGA. I just don't get it. Newark may be closer to those of us on this side of the river, but Continental terminal C is ALWAYS a disaster with traffic and lines at curbside check in.
Does anyone have any theorys?

I'm also looking for flights to Orlando in Oct. (we live in Bergen Cty.) I was checking for Song out of Newark & it was pretty high, so I decided let me just see what it is out of LGA the price was $139 cheaper then Newark, same flight. I work with people that fly Spirt all the time out of LGA & they said it takes less time to drive there then to Newark. We will be flying out of LGA if the prices don't go down for Newark. I just can't figure it out!

I just doubled checked that theory for my flight in October using as close as possible to my current schuduled flights for two. Out of Newark going to orlando via Continential airlines is $400.20, Jet Blue out of JFK is $404.40. Spirit out of LGA $374.00 (Not worth the 25.00 savings) Also thought about flying Song but the availablity did not fit into my schudule.

Why don't you try American out of LGA? I have had good luck with them. I plugged in a random date (10/16, return on the23rd) and the airfare showing was 162 RT. I have noticed that airfares on the AA site can fluctuate during the day. I don't know why.

I just bought tickets at the end of July. We leave tomorrow and my airfare for three was 465 RT.

April 26-May 3, 2005
Continental $335 out of Newark
Song $285 out of Newark
Song $137 out of LGA
Song $146 out of JFK

Makes no sense. I have flown song twice and I like them MUCH better than Continental.

I have to say I liked Song also, I was worried about flying them in April, but I loved it, plus I loved having the TV right in front of you. We will probably fly them in Oct. so far they have the best price. NJTraveler - when I check for prices for Song I go to the Delta web page, they will list Delta & Song flights, also instead of doing a RT ticket I will price the tickets out 1 way, I get a better schedule & the prices are sometimes cheaper or the same. When we went to FL in April, we flew AA down & Song back, this is the way I got the best price.

I live an hour north of NYC and usually fly out of any of those 3 airports. I have noticed that LGA is the cheapest amongst the 3. I usually fly Delta or Song and found that LGA always has better prices. Unfortunately Jet blue does not fly out of LGA. But This year I am flying Song out of LGA at $57 one way. Not a bad deal.

Philly airport is cheaper than Newark too.
I bookes spirit out of Atlantic city to FLL for $39 each way in Sept.
Than In Oct LGA to FLL for $500 for my family of 5. I know FLL is far from MCO but I'm gonna stop for a day to visit family, with a family of 5 we usually drive but I couldn'
t resist these prices. And figured the drive from FLL is better than the drive from here to there.
Try Philly I got my best fair in June from Philly to MCO on US Air.

don8life,

Just curious, where do you live? you seem to fly from everywhere around Newark :)

I am close to Summit and have always used EWR, given all the pricing discussions, I have looked into flights from JFK, LGA, Long Island, Atlantic City, Allentown. The flights are cheaper, but just can't bring myself into booking those tickets, if we were to drive 3 hours after a vacation.

Sigh !! as of now, I am still tempted by the southwest $49 ticket.

(As an aside, I have talked DH into agreeing into driving me and two girls ages 3 and 5 to Long Island airport, and in return, he gets the days off But seriously, I have not decided that it is a good idea that I go alone with the girls. Life is so tough  )

We just flew Jet Blue out of JFK this week. Great planes! Would I do it again??? If I couldn't get a great rate out of EWR,probably, but the ride home from the airport took us 2 hours with traffic!! Jet blue is going to start flying out of LaGuardia this fall, so you might want to keep checking. I really prefer EWR for convenience, but if the price is right I would go out of JFK again.

DH always chooses to leave from EWR for convenience only! We too live in Bergen County and even though Laguardia is not that far, between tolls and aggravation...he doesn't think it is worth it!We just returned from WDW 2 days ago and flew SONG from EWR! What a great airline!:D Plus, their terminal is soooo smooth to get through!

I would rather leave out of Newark, but for about the same flight times on Song out of Newark is $220.20 vs. LGA for $145.20. On 3 tickets we would save $225 to fly out of LGA. I asked DH if he cares about driving to LGA & he said no. So for that price difference we will. We might fly back on AA, they have a later flight & it is cheaper then Song's return flight for that time.

The coast for airlines to take off and land has a big thing to do with over all cost. Newark is the most $ for takeoff and landing.JFK is the cheapest this is why jet blue won't fly from Newark. I will fly from Newark to St. petersburg clearwater on USA 3000
