Hello,

Please move this thread if it's not in the appropriate category. I will be staying at Pop August 8 - 14, and I've been training for a 5k. Even though I'll be on vacation, I would still like to keep in shape. I typically jog early in the morning (6amish) in NY, and the temperatures are typically in the low 70s, but I see Florida has temps in the high 70s. Is there anything I should prepare for? I plan on jogging around the Hourglass Lake (for at least 2 miles) and I'm just concerned about getting overheated. Any tips or thoughts?
Thank you!

Just the normal stuff. Stay hydrated. Wear lightweight and breathable shorts, shirts, and socks. If you can go earlier it’ll be cooler, but it will also be dark.
Also, be aware of wildlife on your running route.

I run that route a lot. It's pleasant. As others have said, EARLY is best, because the humidity is very high. I'd be hydrated beforehand, and over just a couple of miles I wouldn't think you would need to drink anything. It's nice to end a run back at your room and hop right in the shower.

For what it's worth, I tend to like the counterclockwise path more. I'm not sure why, maybe because there seems to be a slight upgrade along the Art of Animation side, and it's nice to get into the shade as you re-enter the Pop area after that.

The surface is very smooth. Depending on when you decide to run it, watch out for the little golf-cart thingies maintenance drives around in. Also watch out early in the morning for the Mousekeeping staff in their carts. In the evening there tend to be more couples and families to dodge.

It will be humid right at sunrise, but will only get worse as the morning goes on.

My husband was training for the Marine Corps marathon while we were at Disney. I agree with others....the earlier you can start, the better. Drink lots of water!

Thank you everyone! I'll try to get up early, just kind of hard when your vacation plans extend to midnight. I'll see what I can do!

If you can stand treadmill running, all of the resorts have fitness centres with treadmills...

Live just south of Animal Kingdom. run 3 miles around 5 AM every morning, never get over heated.
