Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone could suggest any New York restaurants please? My husband is taking me for 3 nights to the Omni Berkshire (52nd St) on the 29th Nov and we'd like to at least book somewhere for the Sat night.

Any ideas appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Claire

what are you looking for, moderate, expensive, inexpensive? I like Sparks Steakhouse (in the 50's, I think) and the rooftop restaurant at the Marriot Marquis Hotel.

for less expensive, theme places, try Mars 2112, Jeckel & Hyde, Planet Hollywood, Ellen's Stardust Diner.

I alos like John's Pizza on west 44th. there are also chains like Olive Gardne and Applebee's in the theater district.

if you want Chinese, come down to Chinatown and wander around. the restaurants don't look fancey but the food is great.

If you are looking for something fancier, Tavern on the Green is beautiful.

Our favorite place is the Bull and the Bear at the Waldorf Astoria. The atmosphere is nice and the steaks are great. Our alternate favorite is Smith and Wolensky's. If you go there, make sure you get the hash brown potatoes and creamed spinach to share. YUMMY!

Haven't made it to Peter Luger's for steak yet. That's in Brooklyn, under the bridge. I can't wait to try it. Supposed to be the best steakhouse.

We've been to Ruths Chris Steakhouse and it's been delicious each time. It close to Radio City Music Hall, I think on 51st street. Here is the link for their exact location and menu.

Wow! If I ever plan a trip to NYC, I'm definitely doing the planning here on the CB, look at all of this wonderful info :)

Ruby Foo (Upper west side or Times Sq) has very good upscale Chinese. Nice 'high end' spots (but tough reservations - call ahead) are Bouley Bakery in Tribeca (West Bway at Duane, I think), Orso (46th btween 8th and 9th - in restaurant row), Sparks (Briar Rose already mentioned) or Morton's for steaks, Cite (in the 50's between 6th and 7th), and one of my favorites Bice off 5th (on 52nd St or so).

You didn't say what kinda food you like & the price, so I'll recommend a general list of restaurants for locals, and some for tourists...

For local tastes -
1. Blue Fin in W Hotel in Time Square. Great vipe and seafood. (I never step foot in Time Sq unless it's for this restaurants).
2. Bar 89 in Soho. Relatively cheap American food, good drink place, and NYC bar scene.
3. China Grill. Very good food, family style.
4. Any Italian or Chinese restaurants in NYC. It'll be the best Italian or chinese food you ever have in your life. :)

For tourists -
1. Tavern on the Green. Expensive, but it's Central Park.
2. Boat House also in Central Park. I'll go for brunch instead. Cheaper, very nice indeed.
3. That tea place in the Plaza Hotel. You get an icecream, and you end up with the Plaza.
4. Vong. Cannot go wrong with this French - Asian fusion place.

Please feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. Enjoy the big apple!

For Lobsters try Smith & Wolenski
For steak Peter Lugers
For Chineese try Billy Hongs
For Italian try Benitos II in Little Italy

A few places we like:

Plata Forma - Brazilian Barbeque, all-you-can-eat, pricey, but excellent, Times Square area

Wong Kee - Cheap with no atmosphere, but fantastic food, especially the noodle soup, Chinatown

Villa Mosconi - Traditional Italian, reasonably priced, Greenwich Village

Il Fornaio - Modern Italian, also reasonably priced, Little Italy

Jekyll & Hyde - Very fun theme restaurant (around 5th Avenue and 56/57 Streets)
