We have a cruise out of NY this November and was wonder what time do you think we should be up on deck for passing under the Verrazano bridge? We have first dinner seating and wondering how that would effect us seeing this. Will we be showing up early or late for dinner? Will it happen after our dinner time?

We sailed last October. We stationed ourselves farthest front before we even left the port and remained there until after we passed under the bridge. Being out there in a good spot to pass under that bridge was one of the number one things I wanted to do and my family indulged me LOL! I would never do this again! It was ok but not nearly as amazing or spectacular as I thought it would be. I thought we would be really close to it. Ultimately, I didn’t feel very close at all.

We left port a bit late. I just watched our video and the time stamp on it when we passed under was at 6:24pm.

Enjoy your cruise!

We've sailed from NY a few times. If you leave on time, the ship should sail under the bridge just before 6 pm.

After the start of first seating. I wanted to stay out until we passed Liberty Island and even with that we were late. You might want to pop in and let your servers know and then head back out.

I booked Palo dinner 6:30 for our first night on our November cruise this year so we could be on deck to pass the landmarks. When we last cruised out of NYC we were at dinner, got to see the stone base of Lady Liberty across the dining room, and then the underside of the bridge. I want to see what mmouse37 is showing!!

If you aren't able to work it in on the sail out - be sure and get up early for the sail back in (assuming it's a round trip cruise). The captain should tell you when to expect to be at the bridge. As beautiful as the sail out is, the sail in is equally spectacular. Seeing the city and the Statue of Liberty all lit up in the dark, then watching the sun come up is just wonderful. I can't wait to see it again next month!

Crossed under these bridge on DCL cruises
  • Bridge of the Americas
  • Centennial Bridge
  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Lions Gate Bridge
  • Öresund Bridge

Is there any compelling reason to see us go under this bridge on the way out of NYC?

For me at least, while going under the bridge (any bridge) is very cool, sailing out of NYC is pretty unique. As you travel down the river, you have Manhattan on one side and NJ on the other. You sail past the Intrepid, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower, just to name a few. It's a pretty amazing sail out - even if you've cruised often.

Agreed! We thought the sail out was one of the most amazing experiences we've ever had!

I believe I was on Deck 4 when I took those bridge pics. Of course the view would also be amazing up on Deck 10. I find it interesting sailing under any bridge...I felt the same way when we sailed under the Bridge of the Americas on the PC cruise.

Sailing down the Hudson River out of NYC is really cool. Everything is pretty close on either side and you get fantastic views of the Empire State Building, the Intrepid, the Freedom Tower, Chelsea Piers, Ellis Island, SOL, etc.

those of you who left from NYC, did they do the sail away party on top deck? Was the weather cool or basically Sept/Oct/Nov weather in the city
