What are yours?

In my family, its considered good luck to eat pork and cabbage...

Just picked up a ham and a head of cabbage....

But here in the south Black Eyed Peas are a big thing....

What are your traditions?

We don't have any.

DH usually has to work. He is off this year, but my (somewhat) irrational fear of drunk drivers will keep us in the house. DS is supposed to be going to a party. We won't even be enjoying a bottle of wine while DS is out because we will have to go pick him up.

I have to work NYE as well...it is my 'holiday' to work (better that then Xmas!)

The past few years....my big plans have been to fall asleep before the ball falls!:lmao:

NYD we usually have another couple and their 2 boys over for picky foods, dinner and a day of games...last year was Rock Band for the Wii, this year will be "Just Dance" and of course uno and other board games!

Traditions I have observed for many many years are as follows...

Getting very drunk
Kissing a stranger
Throwing up
Not remembering getting home

I think that about sums it up. Oh and my new years resolution every year...

NEVER AGAIN!!!

*IF* we were staying in and DS was going to be home then DH and I would have a bottle of wine. I have a VERY strict rule that anyone driving a vehicle with DS inside is not to have had ANY alcohol. I mean not a single drop. It wouldn't be nice of me to drink wine and tell DH he can't have any since he has to drive, so we'll both skip the wine. ;) Maybe we'll have wine on Saturday.

We run for the house and hide until the next day and then have a bbq. Not big holiday people around here:confused3

It has been a long time since we did anything on NYE. Either we worked or were sick. This will be our first NYE off together and will probably play it low key. May watch some movies, enjoy a glass of wine, and then to bed at a reasonable time.

We usually host a dinner on NYE with some friends and family - last year we actually went out in town. NY Day we always have Ham and black eye peas.

Not sure yet what we are doing this year for NYE.

The boys spend the night with Grandma and we just go out to dinner and then hang out at home. New Year's Day is spent celebrating my son's belated birthday with the inl-laws. He likes it. More presents!

Here in Texas, people have to eat black eyed pease on New Years Day. I hate them and think they taste like dirt. Steven's not crazy about them either, but he HAS to do it since it's a die hard Texas tradition, so he makes some sort of cornbread/black eyed peas cassarole. Without fail, every year.

I'd rather just go eat at one of our favorite restaurants in the gayborhood, The Black Eyed Pea. You would think that, that would cound, but I was told no.

Other than that we have no NYE or Day traditions. Sometimes we meet friends out, ring in the new year, take a taxi home. Others, we've crashed on the couch with a couple bottles of champagne and get drunk watching movies. Classy, huh?

This year the Sisters have been requested to show up at a few private parties thrown by the Bear and Leather groups, so thats what we're doing this year. I'll be in a dress........

NY eve - we have a mini second xmas with friends - get way trashed -
go to a big fancy dinner out with the group - get trashed some more.
Hopefully get to see his balls drop - Oops I mean see the ball drop.

NY day - the rose parade always! :flower3:

Ever since I can remember my family celebrates at one of my sibling's houses and at midnight the kids bang pots and pans. We will go to my brother's this year and stay 'til about 10 or 11. Then me and DP will go home with our 2, watch the ball drop and I'll go out with DS to bang the pots and pans at midnight and go to bed.

We always have shrimp in some form on New Year's Eve.

Thank God - I really did think it was just me getting trashed!!!

No honey :sad2: - we got a plethora of trashed and trashy queens here.
Some of them just need help admitting it.

I've worked overnight every year for new year's eve since I started working... I used to work a hockey tournament up until the time I started in hotels, and have worked in the hotel every NYE since. However, my counter-part called in sick Monday night, and (without my asking) said he'd take my NYE. I have no clue what I'm going to do as a result. :confused3

Well, chwgmjay, you could follow our family tradition of eating herring at midnight on New Year's Eve so that you'll have money all year. I haven't declared bankruptcy yet so it must work okay...and the year I had to borrow herring I had borrowed money all year:confused3 Yeah, I know, herring is not exactly a popular menu item.

Perhaps indulging in some strong libation prior to midnight might help?

LOL... I don't eat fish, period. :) I don't doubt there will be liquor involved tho... maybe.
