We are planning on going to Disney next year for the Christmas/New Year Holiday. We heard that Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and MGM have New Years Eve fireworks. What park has the best show?

My personal preference is Epcot.

We've done four NYE's there and this December will be our 5th.

Epcot has two illuminations shows, one early for those not staying till midnight, and the other starts at 11:30 pm or so. It's timed so that it ends just before the NYE fireworks display begins

The NYE fireworks are a lot higher in the sky with generally larger fireworks than is used for the standard illuminations show.

Last year it was in rain. Hopefully this year will be a lot nicer.

One piece of advice, true for illuminations as well as the midnight fireworks. See which way the wind is blowing and select a viewing spot that is upwind from the fireworks. If you get downwind and the smoke stays low, it'll block your view quite a bit.

Have a great time.

We're staying at BWV. Where will you be? Transportation after everything is done can really be slow. All the parks are emptying out a lot of people all at the same time. If you stay at an Epcot area resort, you can walk from Epcot or MGM back to your villa. Anywhere else and be prepared for lots of traffic.

Catsbill, that is a great tip for the smoke. However, what do you mean by "upwind" and "downwind"? Thanks

Pete,
We have been to NYE at MGM. They had bands playing in the streets, a large fireworks show and E! had a show in the soundstage. Parks can fill up, so we went in the morning and stayed for the whole day and evening. Be sure to plan PS's.

Did it rain last year during the midnight fireworks?

Also, if we stay at the parks (MGM, probably) all day and leave just before midnight to watch fireworks from one of the Epcot resorts, will we be missing that much?

Oh yes ... cats, dogs and little kittens. We bailed and went back to BCV and tried to watch from our balcony. The smoke was really too bad to see much of anything.

I think so. I don't understand why you would want to stay all day and then leave at the last minute.

Upwind: The wind is at your back, going from you and toward the fireworks area.
Downwind: The wind is in your face, blowing from the fireworks area toward your position.
