The past two years we have gone to WDW the week before Christmas, but this year we will arrive on New Year's Eve due to our school schedule. We will arrive in the afternoon and won't go to the parks that evening, but I'm looking for some fun ways to celebrate at either DTD (we'll be at SSR) or around the resorts. We'll have 2, maybe 3, teens with us. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I know that GFnhas some sort of party...music, and a balloon drop at midnight...can see the fireworks from the beach too!

This will be our first NYE at WDW. We have young ones, so we are def. not going to try to stay at a park til midnight. We are thinking of just walking around DTD and see what kind of festivities they have there. And when they get tired, just jump on the boat back to OKW.

DTD might be the best place for us, too. We'll be tired from driving and we can just walk from SSR. I would love to see fireworks, though! I wonder if there is any celebration going on at DTD?

We are in the same boat.. A nearly 4 year old and a 16 month old when we go. If anyone has good suggestions, I'd love to hear them. We are at VWL... Maybe o to the campfire at FW that night...

Do they still do a hard ticket event at DTD. I haven't been for NYE since 2006-2007... They had one then but since PI closed not sure if thy still do anything.

I can't imagine going to WDW for NYE, and not seeing the fireworks. There are places you can see park fireworks without actually going into a park. (Of course you may not hear the music.)

This year, I'll see the MK NYE fireworks on Dec 30 (MK does NYE fireworks on both the 30th and 31st - at least they have in the past), and then the EPCOT fireworks on the 31st. (Gotta love that AP!)

I've never known the festivities on the BW, Village Green Area to be strictly for BW/BWV stayers. There's a band, they give out noisemakers and hats all night and they bring in the music from Illuminations.

This past year we weren't there, we were on an Illuminations cruise. $100 a person including tip, but it was fun and something we're glad we did.

if you can go to the contempoary and watch the KM fireworks. They were incredible. Last NYE was our first time and we stayed at BLT. Got an MK view for one night and was definately worth it. You can go onto the stair tower landings at the contemporary. I even saw people on the contempoary roof. I'm sure its a good view. They had a countdown from 10 done with fireworks that were actually inside other fireworks....definately something to see atleast once...enjoy!!!!!

Change of plans... Tonight I was exploring on the online reservation page and was surprised to see a BWV Boardwalk view room show up for New Year's Eve! I booked it and cancelled SSR. We are excited to try out BWV for the first time and I think it will be a fun place to celebrate!!! I think the teenagers will especially love it!

Just know that to get into the resorts where you can actually view fireworks on NYE, such as the Contemporary, you are going to need an ADR for the evening.

They all will be checking very carefully at the gate for that with a list. If not it would simply be a mob scene of people trying to find a place to see the fireworks and avoid going into the parks.

Glad you were able to get the BW, sounds like a good plan and you will not have to deal with traffic.

Wow! That's great, see you at BWV!:thumbsup2

I agree. I would not go to WDW on NYE and NOT go to a park! We have never done the MK NYE fireworks. We've only done Epcot on NYE, and always love it.

We were at WDW for just NYE nite this past year, after spending the Christmas week at Vero Beach. Stayed at SSR, but went to the Boardwalk in the evening. It was wonderful, BWV has a DJ out back, there were party hats being given out, it was very busy and lots of fun, then everyone moved towards Epocot to see the fireworks, afterward the party continued. Families, kids of all ages, lots of fun.

We have braved Magic Kingdom on Christmas Eve. Twice.

It was Magical and exciting. Cast members handing out hats and blowers but as it neared midnight the crowds amassed on Main Street from end to end and side to side. I was starting to Panic!:scared:

The first year we waited near the Pavillion Restaurant for the crowds to empty out. We waited about 45 mins while swarms of people passed us then we finally decided to join the crowd of swimming people. Longest night of my life:rotfl: Crowds were so thick and we waited for so many buses. Then traffic was a parking lot everywhere. I can't remember how long it took to get back to our resort. Hours I can say..........

Second time we were on Main Street close to the flag pole. It was great but we left as soon as possible and made it to a bus. We got back much quicker than the first time. Lots of buses lined up.

I can see that staying at BLT or the Contemporary you could just walk back and it would be worth every penny if you wanted to visit a park.

I love the idea of the Contemporary or one of the other monorail Resorts and watch the fireworks. You would still need to get a bus back to your resort and traffic will be mobbed everywhere on property!
