I know this is crazy, but I might be able to go to the Magic Kingdom on New Year's Eve. I'd love to see the fireworks and can't make it there on the 30th.

Question: does anyone know when the parks usually hit capacity and they close the gates for non-resort guests? A friend won't arrive until the afternoon on the 31st and we really want to see those fireworks.

Thanks!

There are different phases of closures & I don’t recall them. Another poster can maybe tell you those. But I went last yr & you can’t get into the hub or on Main Street after like 4pm. They’ll let you in the park (depending on the phased closures), but they’ll funnel you through that side entrance by Tony’s so you have to go to Tomorrowland. Then you can only walk around the back. You can’t cross over the hub or get in it. There are ropes on the bridges with CMs blocking ppl & redirecting.

here are the levels of closer for the parks,

Is your friend an AP, single day ticket, have an adr? Factors that all would play a part.

If their an AP, really not much to worry about. An AP is on the same level as an on site guest

Interesting. This is my first time going for NYE. So you need to get a spot for the fireworks before 4pm or risk seeing it from outside the hub/Main St? That sounds even crazier than I thought. I have a ADR for Crystal Palace at 8 and was hoping to stake out a spot right after dinner but maybe that's not a good plan.

That’s what happened to us last yr. I don’t know what would happen if you had an ADR over there b/c we didn’t. But they didn’t seem to be allowing anyone. We ended up watching on the bridge in Frontierland & it was actually a great spot b/c you still see the castle from behind & it was nowhere near as crowded back there.

Alternatively you can try to watch it from the polynesian beach or from the contemporary parking lot (which will give you a better view of the perimeter fireworks and they also set off the fireworks in the lagoon too. (So go to the park to ride and do things and then exit around 11 - although I'd do a little earlier for the polynesian. You can't get onto the main beach (behind the volcano pool) as a good chunk of that will be restricted for resort guests but you can get onto the beach closer to the Luau place or try to see them from sunset pointe.
