Has anyone stayed at WDW for New Year's Eve? My parents just retired to Florida and I am happily planning our first Christmas with them. They are only an hour from WDW so with our annual passes we'll make lots of day trips. The kids are off school the whole first week of January and I am trying to make some plans for New Year's Eve.

We spent Thanksgiving at WDW 2 years ago and the whole scene was CRAZY! Way too crowded at the parks for fun... We had a lovely time swimming and resort-hopping instead. Can anyone give me any info on what park, if any, might be less crowded? Are the parks open late all that week? Are there special fireworks in the parks? We are thinking that perhaps the sanest thing to do might be to plan a late dinner somewhere (like 'Ohana, maybe) and relax at a resort and watch fireworks from a safe distance. We are thinking of getting a room on property just for the night, too.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you thought Thanksgiving was crazy, you haven't seen crazy yet!

More crowded!

Parks are open late and with the extra hours MK is open to 3 or 4 am.

Are there special fireworks in the parks?
Yes and they are wonderful, esp at MK!

Last year we planned a long leisurely dinner and then waited the last hour till midnight! We had a great time! Make your ADR early.

New Years Eve is the busiest time. We loved it so much last year that we will be back this year. Just pace yourself and don't expect to hit all the rides. Take the time to enjoy the resorts and all the decorations.

We have been Disney for New Years a few times. The best park to go to would be Epcot, because it is the largest park. They have a few DJ stations thru out the park. It is Very Crowded do not look to do any rides that day. We have gotten to Epcot late and had no problem getting into the park, I have heard of MK closing early and not letting anyone else in. Make sure you stay on property, the roads do close going in to Disney because of crowds and without resort ID you cannot ride the monorail.

We were just there this New Years and what we did was, had dinner at Shula's Steak House at the Dolphin, then we went over to the Boardwalk they had a DJ outside that played all night, he was a lot of fun. We could have stayed there but we went in to Epcot about 9pm did a few of the DJ stations there and then watched the fireworks. Or if you want just hang out at the Boardwalk and watch the Fireworks from the bridge the crowd at the Boarwalk wasn't that bad at all.

I hope this helps you in your decsion.

We shared NYE in 2003 with 75,000 guest. That being said we had a blast. The fireworks in Epcot are amazing and the crowds are large but we had a great time. Had a wonderful dinner in Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki Dining Room then we went outside & there was a DJ station right there. During the day each country celebrates NYE at their given time. At Midnight each country puts on their own fireworks show one at a time then they all get together and put on the best show I have ever seen. The NYE hat I got from the park was bouncing up & down on my head! Did I say it was amazing! Go and have a great time. Yes it is a busy time of the year but you know what with your DVC you will be back!
