New Years Cruise 7 night Western Trip Report

I love the confession of a shoeaholic. I usually have one whole bag of just shoes. Drives the DH crazy!!!

:cheer2:

Lisa -- great report! I'm enjoying it and reliving the cruise this summer.

Lisa - Im eating a slice of peanut butter & Toast whilst reading this !popcorn::

Really enjoying your report - Dh keeps asking me why im turning green - well im only a little bit jealous ;)

Looking forward to the rest
:goodvibes

The rest of the day was rather (or gladly) uneventful (except the Match your Mate Game – but I’ll get there). Lifeboat drill was almost comical. Lots of people all mixed up about where to go and how to wear the lifevest – and of course when they start demonstrating the whistle – every child capable of doing so reached over and started tooting the whistle. Ladies and toot gentlemen toot …. Well you get the idea.

We listen to the new sail away band (N*twine) and please no flames but I wasn’t overly impressed. I’m sorry but Satisfaction and Rollin’ on the River really have to be done with big voices – the pop stuff they did was ok. I just missed the band from our other trip or at least the steel drums.

Dinner in Parrot Cay was good – I remember not caring for it too much – but it was very good. Our table mates were a family of 5 from Canada and the kids took a little while to warm up to a new family. I guess somehow they expected that they would magically be the same family we sat with on our previous cruise that they still talk about. We had Danny Alum on our previous cruise and my youngest fell in love with him. She was soooo looking forward to seeing him again and was heartbroken that he is no longer on the ship. She reluctantly (think big huge crocodile tears here) accepted Fitz as her dining room server this week and by the end of the cruise had fallen in love with him (Thanks Fitz!).

So the only funny and please stop reading now if you don’t want to know about the places “Magic” happens on the boat between couples. Fair warning…..

OK – Hubby and I went to the Match your Mate Show on Saturday night. Luckily we could just slink in the back and not have to go up in public – which I’m sure our 19 yo would have been more than happy to volunteer us for (damn, when did she get old enough to spy on us?!) Anyway – one of the most memorable questions was something to the effect of “Where was the last place you made “Magic” happen?” – OK – we are on the cruise boat and not even one night has passed – so I’m thinking “last week in bed” or “last night in the hotel bathroom while the kids were asleep” or maybe even for those frisky folks “in our stateroom before dinner” – but Nooooo… This couple answers “In Animators Palate – we boarded early” – (Sorry guys if your reading this I’m roasting ya – cause ya’ll admitted it publicly) – I’m mean come’on, everyone in that room now, will never think of Animators the same way – and I know more than one person is thinkin’ about which cartoon you all mashed up against and I sure as heck hope it wasn’t Dumbo. Geez – I mean what do you say “hey baby, wanna watch my colors change” or “Hey baby, l’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way” Well, anyway – I’m still in a state of bewilderment over such a public acknowledgement.

I guess Barb will have to bring her blacklight to dinner now.

Key West
We arrive on New Years Eve day around noon. We rent one of those electric cars because dd begs daddy (dahhhddddddiiiiii) big blue eyes and he’s toast – anyway DH is looking forward to Stone Crab (and has been talking about Stone Crab for days) so we go over to the waterfront and sit down order drinks and stone crab only to be told that they were out. I honestly though DH might cry (well not really – but it wasn’t a pretty sight) – so I finish my Pain Reliever very quickly and we start walking until we find some place with Stone Crab and Peel n Eat Shrimp – We ended up in the Raw Oyster Bar which was pretty good and made awesome drinks. When we leave a Pelican is sitting at the fish cleaning table and won’t leave – guess he’s waiting for the boats to leave. DD drains dad’s pockets of quarters feeding the fish – including what I think was an enormous Tarpon – like 5 feet long! (and it wasn’t the pain killers talking).
After lunch we head out to Ft. McHenry to place on the beach for a little while. Beach was pretty rocky and had a lot of seaweed so we don’t stay as long as we had intended. DH and I take the 2 older girls back to the ship. They are bored. OK – so the 3 of us do the Hemingway House – dd loves all the cats. We decide to have Key Lime Pie on a stick at the Blond Giraffe. Of course its now getting later in the evening and as we are sitting on the front stoop of the blond giraffe – some of the characters that Key West is famous for come to life (or at least wake up). In taking such a break it becomes necessary for dad (notice how I drop this one on dad) to explain about bald men in leather shorts with nipple rings and draq queens – wouldn’t you know that we were sitting across the street from such a bar which was starting to team with action.
We finished with a picture in front of the Southern Most Point Buoy and watched the last sunset of 2006 from Mallory Square. DD was fascinated with the acrobats, jugglers, fire-eaters and all that is Mallory Square.-

“In Animators Palate – we boarded early” :scared: :faint:
WOW TO THAT!!

great trip report!! Can't wait to hear the rest!!

Ya know.....because of these TRs there are places on DCL that I cannot even think about without laughing.

We have:
toilet - suck-o-matic
shower/tub - shub

And now I'll never be able to go to eat at Animator's Pallate with a straight face. I'll be glancing around wondering exactly where that couple made the magic.

You really are having one heck-of-a cruise.

Lisa- You had quite and eventfull trip this time.:) I am enjoying your report.
flo;)

Your report has been hysterical so far! I promise we're laughing WITH you. I read it out loud to my husband (who usually just tolerates me when I do that) and he laughed out loud too.

I can't wait to hear more!

I am enjoying your report! We are going next February and I am gathering info so our cruise can be just as great as yours.

Tara

LOVING your TR. Thinking that you've got a keeper in that man of yours ... first a picnic in the pot mobile and then dropping you off for shoe shopping therapy, I'm not sure it gets any better than that

I'm almost happy now that we've got a 4 day booked on the Wonder for April ... just not sure I could walk into AP on the Magic without :rotfl:

OMG, me too. Now I'm glad I'll be on the Wonder next summer for the very same reason.

BTW......I wonder if there is a pin you can buy for making the "magic" in AP.

Sounds like fun! Can't wait for more.

As far as the Animator's Palate 'Magic'. I'm thinking they cruised before and knew the questions and planned to say that beforehand. I just can't imagine no one being around to catch them in the act.

Glad to hear we aren't the only crazy ones who fly to JAX instead of Orlando. We have saved over $100.00 per ticket doing this from Boston - more than enough to pay for a rental car and parking at the port, plus you have the use of the car to do things before and after the cruise. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
